The Opportunity We are seeking a skilled Procurement Officer to support our Managed Services Provider (MSP) engagement within the Defence sector in Melbourne . The Procurement Officer will be responsible for analysing, developing, and implementing logistics plans that enhance product flow, inventory management, and distribution efficiency. This role supports supply chain optimisation by conducting network studies, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods and services. Through independent problem-solving and collaboration, the specialist contributes to the effective execution of logistics operations and supports continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation. Responsibilities The key responsibilities of the role will include, but is not limited to: Analyses, organises, plans, and manages various phases of day-to-day provisioning, spares, or maintenance and repair activities for one or more basic programs using established procedures. Reviews contractual documents, technical data, customer usage patterns, maintenance practices, operational characteristics, and related reports to determine provisioning or maintenance/repair needs. Assists in developing logistics plans to improve the distribution of goods and supplies. Adheres to established policies, guidelines, and procedures to maintain quality and cost control. Supports distribution and network studies, monitors inventory, and analyses requirements to develop strategies for meeting delivery timeframes. Requires strong knowledge and experience, applying best practices and awareness of internal and external business factors to enhance the Group’s products or services. Works independently with minimal supervision, solving complex problems and applying fresh perspectives to existing solutions. Serves as a resource for less experienced colleagues and may lead small projects with manageable risks. Possesses in-depth understanding of own discipline and basic knowledge of related areas, with familiarity in defence, agency, and industry standards. May act as a mentor or advisor, provide oversight of team tasks, verify timesheets, and contribute to performance appraisals. Often serves as the main point of contact for customers within their area of responsibility and plays a key role in delivering effective outcomes across teams and projects. Qualifications, Skills and Experience Cert IV in Material Logistics or equivalent or relevant experience Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an integrated logistic support or logistic engineering discipline Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Defence or related technical industry Knowledge and experience in Defence logistics management systems, including but not limited to - MILIS, LNIDs, NAVALLOW, APLCRATES and AMPS.
