The opportunity
Inner West Council is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Greenskeeping Apprentice. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about working outdoors and contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of our sporting fields, gardens, and public spaces. As a Greenskeeping Apprentice, you will develop valuable skills while supporting the team with day-to-day operations in the upkeep of council horticultural and greenkeeping assets.
What is the traineeship
This is a 48-month supported program you will receive continuous assistance throughout the journey.
There will be on the job training and formal training and assessment.
You will work towards achieving the competencies outlined in a training plan, complete assigned training and assessments, and maintain a training record.

About the role
General, include but not limited to:
- Provision of maintenance services of sports fields, turf wicket, and garden bed maintenance.
- Street cleaning services, including mowing, planting, mulching, fertilising, spraying (herbicide/pesticide), and watering duties.
- Ensure that all plant, machinery, tools and equipment under your direct control are maintained and utilised in a safe and secure manner, in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions.
- Dispose of all collected waste in the correct bins at Council’s depots (or as otherwise directed).
- Provide professional input and expertise in the maintenance and improvement of Councils horticultural and green keeping assets.
- Commitment to Inner West Council Workplace Health, Safety and Environmental Systems.

Remuneration
From $827.40 per week + 12% Superannuation
Some of the required skills, experience and qualifications
- Capacity to undertake a Certificate III in Sports Turf Management or equivalent Parks and Gardens qualification
- NSW Class C Motor Vehicle driver’s licence
- Ability to attain an NSW General Construction Induction card (White card) as required
