AUSTRALIAN BIORESOURCES PTY LTD The Australian BioResources Pty Ltd (ABR) facility in Moss Vale, NSW, is a state of the art centralised facility specialising in the breeding of congenic, mutant and genetically modified mouse lines for Garvan and partner institutes. Services provided include import/export, rederivation, cryopreservation, and microinjection using the latest targeting technologies. The facility is supported by a world-class animal management system called “Stuart”. THE OPPORTUNITY The primary function of Facility Technician team is to provide support to animal care staff looking after animals used in medical research. The Facility Technician Team work across all 4 buildings on the ABR site and are responsible for cleaning and re-filling cages, removing waste, and the decontamination of equipment and consumables to ensure there is a continuous supply of clean materials to animal rooms. The Facility Technician team are also responsible for bulk stores and receiving deliveries. In addition, cleaning of the other areas such as staff room, administration area and change rooms may be required. These vital tasks contribute indirectly to the high standards of hygiene required for ABR. The Facility Technician Supervisor is responsible for rostering staff across the areas to ensure balanced staffing levels, handling leave requests and distributing tasks across the team. Handle leave requests and rosters Keeping detailed records – staff attendance, medical certificates, equipment maintenance logs, task checklists. Participate in reviews, meetings and manage the performance of the team Take an active, hands-on role in onboarding and training Facility Technician staff. Developing SOPs and training material Handling Return-to-Work plans for injured staffWhere relevant, comply with all CPG’s and founding institutes’ policies, procedures and directions All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s workplace polices (as amended from time to time) and especially Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy, including working in accordance with the WHS management system at all times, as safety is Garvan’s number one priority. EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS REQUIRED Experience supervising a team is essential Able to lead a small team playing a critical role in supporting a larger organisation Highly developed written and verbal communication skills. Must be computer literate and able to learn and use computers and IT systems Strong problem solving, analytical skills, and strategic thinking. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well and flexibly in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders.
