Location Profile At Pakenham Hills Primary School our motto is Life is for Learning. Our mission is to provide each child with the lifelong learning skills, knowledge and social development that will enable them to achieve to their potential and participate successfully in our society. The school has 39 full and part-time teaching staff including a principal and two Assistant Principals, 38 education support staff and a school psychologist. A PLC approach to program planning is a feature of the school's curriculum development. The development of literacy and numeracy skills and the acquisition of critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making strategies are a key part of our curriculum. The school runs a transition to school program during semester 2 each year called Pakky Seals. The school serves a slowly expanding residential and outlying area in the South-East growth corridor. The school is situated 2 km east of Pakenham. Pakenham Hills Primary School is a medium-sized school with a current enrolment of 434 students. The school comprises 22 permanent classrooms, Performing Arts, Visual Art, AUSLAN, and Physical Education rooms, a Library, and an Administration area. Two relocatable double classrooms have been integrated with the permanent buildings on a large site. A BER Multi-Purpose complex was opened at the beginning of 2011. The older gymnasium was refurbished and turned into a dedicated Performing Arts Centre in 2019. Students learn AUSLAN as an alternative language. The school provides a large oval, basketball and netball courts, as well as junior, middle and senior adventure playgrounds. Maintenance of the buildings and development of the grounds is a priority to support our goal in providing a stimulating learning environment and ensuring that the school continues to operate in attractive buildings and surroundings. A shared community facility (Parent Zone) is co-located on the school site. This facility provides a range of allied health services to the local community. Role This is a 12-month position with the potential to extend. Hours are 7:30am to 3:36pm Monday to Friday. Start and finish times are negotiable. The attendance requirement for this position can be summarised as follows: School Vacation Period: The successful applicant will be required to work one week during the school vacation period each year. Start of the School Year: The applicant will be required to resume duties one week earlier than Education Support (ES) staff at the beginning of the school year. Reports to and liases regularly with the Principal or delegate. Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs. Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management. The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations. This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management. An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employees position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher. Responsibilities Manage hire of facilities including contract management. Manage and monitor building and grounds works. Manage and maintain documentation and records relating to OHS and WorkSafe compliance requirements including comprehensive contractors on site register. Manage and implement required works and inspections using the Education Department School Maintenance System and Purchase Ordering system. Schedule and document planned maintenance activities, including, but not limited to essential services, air conditioning, heating, electrical, plumbing, fire services, pest control, painting, concreting, engineering, glazing, carpenters, asbestos audits, facilities audits, pool maintenance and departmental inspections. Manage and organise all quotations for major and minor works within the school. Instruct and coordinate service contractors to ensure works are carried out with due regard to protection of the buildings and grounds and also with minimum disruption to school activities. Manage and liaise with the Facilities Officer on day to day operations of the school. Assist the business manager in developing maintenance and grounds budgets as required. This may include developing proposals for building and capital works as required. Manage the college assets including purchase, repair, renewal and stocktake. Manage the schools OHS system and processes in line with the DET OHS system. Implement appropriate OH&S and risk management procedures and ensure staff and contractors comply with OHS requirements and legislated standards Respond to any facility related emergency situations in an appropriate manner and undertake such other duties as may be required, noting such activities may be outside normal working hours. Liaise with the DET appointed cleaning contractor to oversee the implementation of the Cleaning Services Plan. Prepare regular reports for School Council. Regularly monitor and update the schools approved contractor database. Active member on the School Councils Building and Grounds subcommittee. Current driver's licence and Working with Children's Check essential.
