We are currently seeking a qualified and experienced Sheet Metal Worker specialising in HVAC to join our team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the precise fabrication, installation, and maintenance of ductwork systems in accordance with Australian Standards and the National Construction Code (NCC). Key Responsibilities: Fabrication & Assembly: Interpret mechanical drawings per AS 4254.1 and AS 1668. Develop duct patterns using triangulation, radial, and parallel line methods. Operate CNC machines, guillotines, shears, folders, and lock-seaming tools. Ensure fabrication meets air leakage classifications and pressure classes. Installation: Install ductwork systems (rectangular, round, and flexible) in line with AS 4254.2. Use compliant fixing systems, seismic bracing, and suspension hardware. Apply insulation and sealants per Section J of the NCC (Energy Efficiency). Integrate duct systems with mechanical plant including AHUs, fans, and diffusers. Coordination & Site Work: Liaise with engineers, site forepersons, and trades for coordinated installations. Perform site measurements and modify ductwork to suit as-built conditions. Assist in commissioning and airflow testing based on mechanical ventilation principles. Compliance, Quality & Safety: Adhere to WHS requirements including PPE use, confined space, and working at heights (AS/NZS 1891). Conduct quality inspections and testing of completed ductwork. Maintain accurate installation records and assist with O&M manual preparation. Ensure ongoing compliance with state licensing bodies such as Fair Trading NSW and the VBA. Technical Competencies: Strong understanding of AS 1668, AS/NZS 3666, and other mechanical service standards. Proficiency in CAD/BIM platforms such as AutoCAD MEP or Revit. Skilled in both manual and computer-aided sheet metal fabrication. Knowledge of airflow calculations, pressure losses, and static pressure design. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: Work across rooftops, ceiling spaces, plant rooms, and active construction sites. Capable of handling components up to 25 kg (with or without lifting aids). Ability to safely operate on scaffolding and elevated platforms per AS 2550. Required Skills and Qualifications: Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent. Minimum 3 years’ experience in HVAC duct installation and sheet metal work. Current White Card and Working at Heights ticket preferred. Strong commitment to quality, safety, and compliance. Salary: From $80,000 to $90,000 per annum (exclusive superannuation).
