About the Role The Contracts Manager is a senior strategic role responsible for leading all legal, commercial, and contractual functions across the smart energy solutions portfolio, including solar PV, battery storage, electrification, and smart mobility projects. The role ensures legal integrity, commercial excellence, and regulatory compliance throughout the project lifecycle, from tender to completion. Responsibilities Governance Develop and maintain legal frameworks and contract templates. Ensure compliance with internal policies, legal standards, and governance protocols. Manage licensing and authorisation requirements. Lead internal governance processes and contract approval workflows. Pre-Sales Support Review bid documentation and support deal structuring. Advise on commercial terms and risk mitigation during pre-sales. Collaborate with sales and business development teams to align legal and commercial strategies. Contract and Commercial Advice Lead negotiations for EPC, D&C, MSA, O&M, SLAs, NDAs, and procurement contracts. Conduct risk analysis and develop mitigation strategies. Provide legal and commercial advice on complex issues (e.g., performance guarantees, liquidated damages). Manage procurement and supply chain risks. Stakeholder Engagement Liaise with Iberdrola’s legal team and internal departments (Engineering, Delivery, Finance). Build strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and contractors. Mentor junior staff and contribute to executive decision-making. Ensure alignment between legal, commercial, and technical teams. Projects Develop project-specific contracting strategies. Support project teams with claims, variations, and compliance documentation. Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure quality standards. Facilitate post-project reviews and continuous improvement. Required qualifications Relevant qualifications (Contracts or Construction Management) coupled with strong demonstrable experience managing complex contracts in a contracting environment. Senior experience with quantifiable results in contract negotiation, management and administration in a high-risk construction environment. Experience in construction or engineering industry working with AS4902 Design and Construct Contracts. Skills High integrity, sound judgment, and a strong ethical compass. Making independent, high-impact decisions with limited oversight, especially in time-sensitive or high-risk scenarios. Balancing commercial objectives with legal risk mitigation. Superior organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities. A confident understanding of contract terminology. Ability to provide technical leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, complimented by influencing/negotiation skills. Ability to work around problems and focus on solutions and alternatives to progress projects. Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. A desire to implement change and innovation. Strong experience in negotiation, conflict resolution and managing internal and external stakeholders. The ability to build and maintain strong working relationships at all levels. Ability to navigate through complex technical matters.
