Group Tax Manager Smart Tax Search is proud to be partnering with an ASX listed organisation within the hospitality industry, head office based in South Melbourne. We are looking for an experienced Tax professional with a broad Tax focus and ability to be both “hands on” and strategic with a flexible no-fuss approach. Reporting to the CFO, the key responsibilities of the role will be: Tax Management and Strategy: Management of compliance with laws and regulations for direct and indirect taxes for the Group in Australia and overseas, Build relationships and interact with key internal stakeholders and external consultants to provide excellent planning, advice, and expertise, Provide tax planning and value adding opportunities, Prepare and reviews income tax returns with the assistance of the Senior Tax Specialist, Manage all tax risks, including identifying, documenting, and mitigating tax risks and establishing proper processes and controls, including in relation to transfer pricing, Manage the tax effect accounting and tax compliance process, Prepare and reviews tax effect accounting entries, reconciliations, and proofs, Maintain tax balances in the general ledger and oversees reconciliations, Develop and maintain yearly tax compliance calendar, Improve processes by developing and implementing best practices, Manage and coordinate risk reviews and audits by tax authorities, including responses to requests from tax authorities, Review and update the Group’s tax strategies, policies, and procedures. Business Excellence and Process Improvement: Maintain effective relationships with the business units and the Finance team, Act as the Tax subject matter expert within the business, Support the business units with proactive and practical tax advice and input on all business issues, projects, and transactions, Prepare tax reporting and analysis with insightful commentary for Board and Audit and Risk committee meetings, Complete regular analysis and review of tax processes, procedures and controls and seek opportunities for process improvements, efficiency, and data accuracy, Review and assess internal tax controls, including tax risks and document all material tax risks and any non-compliance, Implement and maintain tax governance and transfer pricing programs. Stakeholder and people management: Provide leadership and direction for the tax function globally, Act as a visible role model by living the values and leadership behaviours that drive the business and influence stakeholders, Ensure succession planning is in place for key roles across the tax team, Maintain technical proficiency for the tax team by keeping up to date with changes in the tax laws and other tax developments, Assist in the selection of team members within Tax division to ensure recruitment is in line with the desired company culture and the skills required, Build team skills through training, mentoring, and developing staff so team members have the right skill set to perform their roles and engage effectively with key stakeholders, Creates a culture of accountability by embedding performance metrics, goals and KPIs. Skills, Experienced and Qualifications of the successful candidate: Circa 6 years’ experience in Australian Corporate Tax. Ideally some experience in an in-house environment but also happy to consider candidates from a mid-tier (top 10), or Big4 accounting firm, Experience with Tax Effect Accounting and ability to be hands on with compliance as well as strategic with Tax and Business advisory, Relevant degree qualified and post-grad qualification such as CA/CPA or Masters of Tax, Staff management or supervisory experience beneficial and proven ability to manage senior stakeholders, Sound experience of Tax Risk Management, Ability to work with advisors and tax authorities in overseas jurisdictions Well-developed communication skills, analytical skills with detail orientation This is a fantastic experience to be hands-on in a listed corporate organisation where the CFO and business values the input of the Tax team. This will suit someone looking to step up into a Head of Tax role or a current 2ic or Manager within a larger team looking to expand their responsibly and business knowledge. Note: this role is required to be in the office fulltime due to the critical nature of the business partnering. There is, however, flexibility and autonomy within the role.
