The primary focus of the Rail Safety Risk Officer is to support the development, coordination, and implementation of effective rail safety risk management processes across the SSTOM project. This includes assisting with the identification, assessment, and control of risks associated with rail systems, operations, and infrastructure in accordance with legislative requirements and client standards. This role will be based Full Time at our Elizabeth Drive Office and along the alignment as required (St Marys to Bradfield). Responsibilities : Assist in the development and maintenance of the Rail Transport Operator Risk Management Plan and supporting procedures. Support the facilitation and documentation of rail safety risk assessments at various stages of the project. Support and assist in the implementation of the Webuild Rail Transport Operator accreditation obligations under Rail Safety National Law. Maintain and update the project’s rail safety components of the projects Health and Safety Risk Register, ensuring accuracy and traceability of risks and controls. Contribute to Safety in Design (SiD) and hazard identification workshops, capturing key risks and actions. Support the integration of risk controls into engineering and construction activities Assist in preparing risk summaries and inputs for assurance reports and Safety Case documentation. Monitor and track implementation of agreed rail safety controls and mitigations · Assist with incident investigations from a risk management perspective, identifying causes and contributing factors. Provide general administrative support to the Rail Safety Team, including filing, record keeping, and document management. Participate in internal reviews and audits related to rail safety risk processes. Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather risk-related data and ensure alignment with project objectives Promote a positive safety culture by contributing to toolbox talks and awareness sessions on key rail safety risks. Support compliance with legislative requirements under the Rail Safety National Law and Webuild’s SMS.ce data and implement strategies to achieve continual improvement. Criteria: Relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Engineering, Safety, Science, or Risk Management) would be ideal, however on-the-job experience will also suffice White Card Completion of or willingness to undertake Rail Safety Worker training and CAT 3 Medical ICAM familiarity or training (desirable) 3–4 years’ experience in rail, infrastructure, or construction projects in a safety or risk-related role Experience supporting risk assessments or safety workshops Familiarity with risk management principles and relevant standards (e.g. ISO 31000) An understanding of hazard identification and risk control principles Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and document management systems Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team Detail-oriented with strong organisational and time management skills Willingness to learn and grow in a high-performance, safety-critical environment What’s next?
