About the AEMO Operations division The Operations division is responsible for enabling and operating today’s energy systems and markets securely and reliably, along with supporting AEMO to navigate the energy future. In addition to operating the national electricity (NEM) and east coast gas markets, the division plays a critical role in supporting and shaping rules reform through liaison with other AEMO divisions and external stakeholders including government, regulatory bodies and energy market participants. The Market Management team sits within the Operations division and is focused on executing the metering, financial settlement and prudential functions for gas and electricity markets spanning the NEM, WEM and east coast gas. Core activities include receipt and validation of meter data, generation of timely and accurate settlement statements, settling the markets and monitoring participant prudential positions. The team is also engaged in supporting the delivery of significant energy market reform initiatives. What you will be doing Multiple roles are available across the group to support delivery of core market functions. Fundamental elements common to the roles include: Provision of analytical support and data forensics to produce insight or resolve complex data problems. Ensuring internal operational processes are aligned and executed in accordance with market rules and daily/weekly/monthly production cycles. Support and monitor suppliers of source data and market participants regarding their questions and obligations. Contribute to the delivery of industry reform projects through interpretation of market rules and subsequent design and development of systems and processes. Communication and connection is key, as you will be collaborating with a range of internal stakeholders to support our mission and also the access point for industry participants on financial/data queries. What you will bring to the role Mandatory minimum degree qualification in relevant discipline (economics, commerce, finance or information systems). Passion for energy with an understanding of the energy sector. Senior and Principal Analysts should have a detailed understanding of the changes in the energy sector and how these affect AEMO. Related work experience in the energy industry with consideration given to relevant experience in related industries (eg utilities or experience in data intensive, high financial materiality environments). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to draw and articulate conclusions from modelling results. Experience working with analysis tools such as MS Office suite, SQL, R, VBA, Python, Power BI, databricks, and PowerBI. Quantitative analysis capability utilising databases and spreadsheets to design and run data analysis. Sound understanding of energy market structure, NEM, WEM, or gas markets with knowledge of metering, settlement or prudentials processes an advantage. You will be a confident communicator and a proactive learner who has a commitment to operational excellence and a passion for collaborative problem solving and contributing to a supportive and high performing team.
