An exciting opportunity to provide technical and operational support to the Chief Investigator and the team to support research on ethnic inequalities in cardiovascular disease Part time (0.4 FTE) fixed term from September 2025 until 31/12/2025 Base Salary $ $86,511 (pro rata 0.40 FTE) 17% superannuation About the opportunity Sydney School of Public Health is Australia’s first and leading school of public health. We are a leader in a number of research areas including health policy , health promotion and prevention of disease and disabilities, among others. The Research Assistant provides research, technical, operational, and administrative support to the Chief Investigator and the team on an externally funded grant to research the use of health services by culturally diverse groups and the related effects on cardiovascular disease outcomes. This includes preparing relevant materials in collaboration with team members, performing fundamental aspects of research work, and facilitating the efficient operation of the research program by providing essential technical and operational support. The incumbent will be expected to coordinate the activities associated with research projects, and work towards ensuring that research/etc are prepared for and run smoothly. Your key responsibilities will be to: assist the biostatistician and other research staff in data management and running of quantitative analyses in the secure Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) DataLab assist with ethics amendments manage other administrative and support tasks as required conduct literature searches on key topics related to ethnic inequalities in cardiovascular disease contribute to reports and publications under the supervision of the Chief Investigator, Biostatistician and other investigators. About you Master’s of Public Health, Master of Biostatistics or Master of Clinical Epidemiology qualification or equivalent that has included instruction in advanced statistical methods and a research project High-level data analysis skills, experience using statistical software (R), and reporting on research findings Experience with analysing linked data – preferably through PLIDA (the ABS Person Linked Integrated Data Asset) Have completed DataLab training with the ABS and are currently registered as a safe researcher in the DataLab environment experience in carrying out scientific literary searches, and preparing literature reviews for further analysis ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work strong interest and experience in working with diverse cultural and community groups either in Australia or internationally as part of own lived experience, focus of study or in a research role excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of empathy and discretion in dealing with complex matters would suit PHD student with interest in ethnic/cultural diversity and public health.
