The key duties of the position include We are seeking to fill an immediate vacancy and establish a merit pool to support future projects. As a Technical Officer you will play a crucial role in supporting and enhancing our ground-based sensor networks. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in diverse environments and contribute to projects that support community safety and create a location-enabled Australia. In this role you will: Provide key operational and project support to maintain positioning sensor stations across Australia, Antarctica, and the Pacific. Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders to respond to, and resolve technical issues promptly, maintaining service standards, including network availability, reliability, and security. Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation, including work instructions, technical specifications, site and asset records, commissioning reports, schematics, change requests, contract and procurement documentation. Lead projects to develop technical improvements to modernise and improve the systems, working with consultants, contractors, and partners for design, implementation, and review. Configure and test equipment as part of planned infrastructure upgrades. Demonstrate leadership in safety by adhering to and improving work practices, ensuring fieldwork and operations prioritise the well-being of technical teams and site personnel within WHS frameworks. Contribute to the positive team culture through continuous delivery, development, agility and stakeholder engagement. To be successful in the role you will: Work under limited direction to establish clear project outcomes; respond flexibly to changing demands whilst working towards successful delivery; cope effectively with change. Demonstrate strong technical leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills and work effectively to identify, prioritise, solve and communicate issues in a time-sensitive manner. Work collaboratively and operate as an effective team member; communicate effectively within the team to consult, collaborate & inform. Build and sustain positive relationships with external stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and experiences; confidently present and tailor technical information in both written and oral form to a range of audiences. Support section management and actively contribute to and foster an inclusive culture within the team; Adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct and consistently behave in an honest, ethical, and professional manner. Required skills, knowledge, experience and/or qualifications Technical qualifications in electronics and communications, electrical engineering, or systems engineering, or equivalent experience. Demonstrated experience working with low voltage systems, solar systems, and radio frequency systems. Experience planning and undertaking fieldwork in remote areas.
