Description Overview The Senior Risk Manager role will be joining MUFG Corporate Markets here in Sydney (as well as supporting teams in other Australian locations) and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of the risk and compliance framework and ensure the sustainable growth of the business. This role will build out the Line 1 Risk function, supporting multiple Lines of Business across the organization. As a genuine partner to the business the role plays a pivotal part in fostering a risk aware organisational culture and advising the business to ensure internal controls are appropriately identified, assessed and monitored. The role will be tasked to do the following: Gain a thorough understanding of the business working closely with SME's to develop and implement risk management strategies, prioritising mitigation efforts and become a trusted adviser to the Lines of Business. Share and transfer specialist Risk knowledge and expertise with businesses and key stakeholders. Perform risk and control assessments for current and emerging risks to identify control weaknesses and inefficiencies and work with management to develop action plans for improvements. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders in the business, Line 2 Risk and Compliance and Technology. Conduct control testing and collaborate with colleagues to enhance the control environment and testing methods. Provide assurance that the risk management approach being used by the company in decision-making processes with regards to the business is operating effectively; Work closely with Line 2 Risk and Compliance teams to ensure a unified approach to risk and compliance. Oversee the management and reporting of incidents in the GRC system and updates to the Risk Committee. Ensure data quality of information reported in GRC system. Monitor all the requirements that are needed for risk management and assure that these requirements are up-to-date and can keep up with the trends of the industry where a specific business belongs; Take a continuous improvement approach the risk management strategy, propose, and suggest improvements in terms of the risk management processes being used by the company to assure the organizational achievement in this area. Demonstrate, drive and embed a positive and continually improving risk culture across the business This role will be key in building the profile of the team in the organisation and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and promote a positive risk culture and drive effective management of risks within the business. It will be expected that they will contribute ideas to the development and implementation of a robust First Line Risk management framework in addition to providing constructive recommendations focussed on internal control as well as value add recommendations to help the business achieve its objectives. The role will form part of, and collaboratively contribute to, the Risk & Compliance department that is responsible for the overall management of all activities Risk Management frameworks within Corporate Markets. Key Accountabilities and main responsibilities Strategic Focus Plan and align with Head of Risk and Compliance to drive forward with governance and framework for effective First Line Risk management. Align with Line 1 Business teams within Corporate Markets to push forward with our ‘Risk as a mindset’ approach Support uplift capability and risk awareness of all staff Operational Management Day to day coordination of First Line Risk Management across Corporate Markets adhering to three lines of defence model. Provide insights into packs for Divisional Level Risk Committee, all Risk Forums and other audit and committee meetings as required. “Test” the effectiveness of cascading risk management approach to business decision making Proactively identify emerging risks and report to relevant stakeholders Review and challenge of incident identification and mitigation practices. Monitor implementation of risk mitigation plans to ensure efforts are proceeding as required Actively tracking all outstanding mitigations and treatments Working closely with our Risk partners at a Line Two level Liaise with department heads on the adequacy of proposed actions in management of risk areas highlighted in internal audit reports Evaluate the adequacy of the company’s internal control framework in addressing risks and accomplishing the company’s goals and objectives Liaise with departmental heads in ensuring completion of risk registers on a quarterly basis Production of presentations, as and when, required Work with Line 2 to Identify training needs for Line 1 Risk management and Line 1 Business Staff to ensure risk competence and awareness across the company Guiding integration of First Line Risk management with other organisational planning and management activities Provide regular reporting to the Line 2 Risk and Compliance team to support Risk Committee reporting Provide risk advice on changes initiatives to ensure compliance with Business Initiatives assessment requirements. People Leadership Support Line 1 business staff to ensure they are meeting all required risk principles Communicate effectively so staff are all clearly working towards same objectives and aligned to the needs of the business, with the ability to adapt and shift as needed Governance & Risk Attendance at relevant committee meetings Monitor and report on compliance with regulatory requirements to Line Two where required Experience & Personal Attributes A proven ability to coordinate and manage competing activities, at one time with the ability to prioritise accordingly. Demonstrated knowledge of Risk principles Personal commitment to, and visible role modelling of, the organisation's behaviours and values. A Risk mindset Ability to review and develop strong understanding of complex processes as well as develop recommendations to improve the controls over such processes. Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong stakeholder management experience and ability to interact with stakeholders at all levels. Understanding of internal control frameworks and how they work within our business with a view to help drive, shift and change these as required to meet overall business objectives 3 years financial services experience 3 years’ experience in Operational risk and/or Compliance or related disciplines Able to build strong, open and collaborative working relationships
