Job Title : Biosecurity & Compliance Officer Location: WALCHA Council, 2w Hamilton St, Walcha NSW 2354 Type: Full Time Job Description: WALCHA Council is seeking an organized and detail-oriented professional to serve as a Biosecurity & Compliance Officer. This individual will play a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of the environment and community within the Walcha region. The Position: Responsibilities: 1. Design, develop, and implement biosecurity strategies and programs in accordance with legislation and standards. 2. Conduct regular assessments and surveillance of biosecurity risks within the Walcha region. 3. Prepare detailed reports on biosecurity and maintain proper records of compliance activities. 4. Educate and raise public awareness regarding biosecurity issues and compliance standards. 5. Respond to biosecurity threats or issues promptly and effectively, ensuring minimal harm to the environment and community. 6. Remedy non-compliance through necessary enforcement actions and recommend improvements to existing regulations and policies. 7. Coordinate and collaborate with multiple stakeholders including local community, government agencies, and other relevant entities. 8. Attend seminars, workshops or meetings on biosecurity matters as required. Required Qualifications: 1. A bachelor’s degree in environmental science, biology, public health or other relevant fields. 2. At least 3 years of experience in biosecurity management and compliance, preferably within a local government setting. 3. Comprehensive understanding of biosecurity legislation and regulations. 4. Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. 5. High integrity and professionalism with respect for confidentiality and discretion. 6. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written. 7. Solid organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively. 8. Proficient in using MS Office applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 9. Ability to work independently or as a part of a team and maintain a healthy work relationship with stakeholders. The position falls under the regulatory instrument of the Local Government (State) Award 2023 and the pay rate will vary based on your previous experience and skills.
