Trades Assistants and Excavator Operators – DIDO | Bairnsdale to Orbost VIC | National Fibre Project Location: Between Bairnsdale and Orbost, VIC (travel required) Contract Duration: 1 May – 31 July 2025 (3-month contract) Roster: 10 days on / 4 days off | 10–12 hour shifts Pay Rates: Trades Assistants: $32–$36 per hour Machine Operators: $36–$38 per hour About the Project: OSOS Alliance and our client welcome you to one of the most significant infrastructure upgrades in the country — the Inter-Capital Fibre (ICF) project. This national fibre optic rollout will connect capital cities to remote communities with ultra-fast, high-capacity cable. Role 1: Trades Assistant (TA) You’ll be the hands and feet on the ground — supporting the physical rollout of fibre optic infrastructure and assisting wherever needed to keep things moving. Key Responsibilities: Assisting with the installation of optical fibre cables and marker posts Manual handling and hauling of fibre cable Potholing, locating services, and basic site works Fence repairs and general ground labour Supporting machine operators and supervisors on site Mandatory Requirements: Current Australian Driver’s Licence Construction Industry Induction (White Card) VOC for Excavator (you must be able to operate one when required) RII Excavator accreditation Physically fit and capable of working long hours outdoors Willingness and ability to work away from home on a set roster Desirable Qualifications (Preferred but not essential): HR (Heavy Rigid) Truck Licence Pit, Pipe & Cable Hauling training Certificate in locating underground services Senior First Aid Level 2 Traffic Management Asbestos Awareness Dogman/Rigger tickets This role is ideal for individuals looking to work hard, learn on the go, and support a fast-paced civil project with national impact. Role 2: Machine Operator – Excavator (Experienced Only) This is not a trainee position. We’re after experienced operators who know their way around tight digs, live services, and safety-critical environments. If that’s you, read on. Key Responsibilities: Excavator operation for trenching and fibre cable installation Potholing and service identification Operating in close proximity to live assets and underground infrastructure Coordinating with ground crews and site supervisors Routine equipment checks and maintenance Mandatory Requirements: Demonstrated experience as an Excavator Operator in civil or fibre projects Current Australian Driver’s Licence White Card (Construction Induction) VOC and RII for Excavator Ability to work independently and under supervision in remote areas Comfortable travelling and staying away from home for work stints Desirable Qualifications (Highly Regarded): HR Truck Licence Fibre Pit and Pipe/Cable Hauling experience Service locating experience First Aid, Working at Heights, and Traffic Management tickets Asbestos Awareness and Rigger/Dogman certification If you’re confident behind the controls and want to be part of something bigger than the job site, this one’s for you.
