The Duties: Reporting to the Council’s Operations Manager, the position will lead and supervise teams to provide a high standard of services within the community including construction, upgrades and maintenance of: Roads. Footpaths. Parks and gardens. Drainage. Waste collection, transfer and disposal A summary of the tasks needed to achieve objectives will include: Provide excellent team leadership. Manage civil works programmes. Prioritise daily, weekly, monthly and annual jobs. Monitor and improve labour and plant productivity. Quantify and arrange equipment, plant and materials for projects. Provide advice on plant and equipment replacement. Monitor and ensure compliance with Council Workplace Health & Safety policies. Operate plant, machinery and equipment. Ensure accuracy of daily timecards for civil, road and waste staff. The Successful Applicant: To perform the role, applicants will be able to demonstrate: The proven ability to work respectfully within an Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander Community with a recognition of traditional values and culture. Experience in road, footpath, parks & gardens and drainage construction and maintenance. Experience with waste collection, transfer and disposal. Competent with plan and design interpretation. Working knowledge of Awards, WPH&S and EEO requirements. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Proven leadership and management skills. Although not essential requirements, preference will be shown to applicants also able to provide any of the following: Formal qualifications / training relevant to civil construction, leadership and management. Local Government experience. Plant and equipment operator licences / competencies. Minimum HR driver licence.
