About the Role At CFA, our Vegetation Management Program plays a vital role in protecting Victorian communities. By reducing bushfire risk through smart fuel management, we strengthen not only the safety of our environment but also the skills and resilience of our volunteers, staff, and the broader community. Our approach is based on deep knowledge of fire behaviour and practical, effective prevention strategies. We are now offering an exciting, field-based opportunity for a motivated vegetation management professional to make a real impact. You'll provide expert advice on sustainable vegetation management for fire prevention, balancing legislative, environmental, cultural and financial considerations. This role is crucial in developing and implementing operational plans that align with State Policy, Regional Strategies and local community needs. This is a unique opportunity for professionals who have demonstrated experience working in fire services, land management agencies, environmental planning or emergency management sectors to broaden their skills and join a purpose-driven and community-focused organisation. Key responsibilities include: Plan and deliver strategic vegetation management programs, including the establishment of linear breaks for operational readiness. Build strong relationships with landowners, community groups, and partner agencies to promote collaborative vegetation management initiatives. Deliver ecologically sustainable, culturally sensitive, and risk-based land management solutions. Provide high-level technical advice on vegetation management practices and fire prevention strategies. Conduct property inspections and work closely with CFA brigades to design and implement treatment plans. Communicate legislative requirements, policies, and best-practice guidelines to a range of stakeholders. Monitor, review, and continuously improve vegetation treatment programs. Oversee contractor operations and support local vegetation management teams. Provide guidance and capability-building initiatives for CFA volunteers to enhance local preparedness. Contribute to post-fire land rehabilitation and recovery planning. About You Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following Appropriate tertiary qualification and/or demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislative, environmental and technical issues relevant to vegetation management. Demonstrated experience and ability to assess vegetation management risks, develop appropriate mitigation plans and facilitate implementation of those plans. Demonstrated ability to develop, build and maintain partnerships between key stakeholder groups. Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), including the ability to prepare high level written advice, plans and reports. Highly developed analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to work with limited supervision.
