Support transformative bioinformatics initiatives at Sydney Informatics Hub Full time, continuing position Base Salary $108,557 - $118,267 17% superannuation About the opportunity The Sydney Informatics Hub (SIH) is a Core Research Facility supporting researchers across all faculties at the University of Sydney. We provide comprehensive research data services, including analytics, software engineering, statistical consulting, and access to computing platforms. SIH is also a node of the Australian BioCommons , helping to advance bioinformatics access and capabilities for life science researchers nationally. As a Senior Research Bioinformatician , you’ll play a key role in supporting life science research by delivering expert bioinformatics solutions, developing tools and training programs, and working closely with researchers to address complex biological questions. You’ll be part of a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team and report to the Bioinformatics Group Lead. Your key responsibilities will be to: contribute to bioinformatics projects and infrastructure across SIH and partners design and implement scalable bioinformatics solutions using HPC and cloud environments lead and support software development, data analysis, and training delivery promote best-practice research and reproducibility through collaboration and tool development. You’re excited by the challenge of learning and applying cutting-edge computational approaches to complex biological problems. Specifically, we are looking for a Senior Research Bioinformatician who demonstrates: postgraduate qualifications or an equivalent combination of experience and/or training in a relevant field (e.g. bioinformatics, biology, genetics) knowledge and experience processing and analysing next generation sequencing and other ‘omics datasets experience working across high-performance and/or cloud computing environments, applying code performance optimisation techniques extensive experience working in a Linux/UNIX environment, using scientific computing languages (e.g. Python, R) and workflow and software management technologies (e.g. Nextflow, Singularity, Docker, Git) excellent project management skills, demonstrating an ability to effectively collaborate and manage competing priorities to meet required timelines excellent written and verbal communication skills to engender positive collaborations and engagements.
