This key role will be responsible for ensuring the highest quality standards across all manufactured components, assemblies, and systems within the heavy manufacturing and defence sectors. As a Quality Control Inspector, you will ensure compliance with strict quality, safety, and regulatory standards through comprehensive inspection, testing, and reporting. What You’ll Do: Inspection & Testing: Perform detailed inspections of materials, components, and finished products to ensure compliance with engineering specifications and industry standards. Use precision instruments (micrometers, callipers, CMM, laser scanning, etc.) to conduct first article, in-process, and final inspections. Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure that all products meet ISO, AS, and defence industry standards. Maintain detailed records of inspections, quality reports, and compliance documentation. Collaboration & Improvement: Work closely with production and engineering teams to identify and implement quality improvements. Participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions. Safety & Continuous Improvement: Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations. Participate in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to help drive continuous improvement. What We’re Looking For Qualifications: Certificate IV or Diploma in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality Assurance (or equivalent experience). CSWIP 3.1 / IIW certification. AS1796 & AS2214 certification. Previous experience in quality control within heavy manufacturing, defence, or shipbuilding environments. Knowledge of ISO 9001, AS 9100, AS:1554, AS:4041-2006, Lloyd’s welding requirements, and defence industry quality standards. Skills & Experience: Proficient in using precision measuring instruments and inspection tools. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods (e.g., ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle) is a plus. Ability to work independently and within a team in a high-compliance, safety-focused environment. Desirable: Experience with CNC machining, welding, and fabrication processes. Defence industry security clearance or eligibility to obtain one. Trade qualification Cert 3 fabrication with 10 years of experience is preferable.
