Our client is seeking an experienced Media Officer and Senior Media Officer to join the Media & Communications team supporting the Manager, Media in a key advisory and delivery role. This position involves managing both proactive and reactive media , supporting public relations strategies, preparing and issuing media statements , and responding to media enquiries , including those outside of business hours (e.g. early morning radio). You may also be required to act as an organisational spokesperson , assist with event preparation and support senior leadership with public speaking material and media briefings . Strong relationships with stakeholders, Ministers’ offices, and media representatives are key to this role. Your experience leading campaigns, handling crisis communications, and engaging directly with media across various sectors makes you a strong fit – especially for the Senior Media Officer level . Position Details: Role: Media Officer OR Senior Media Officer (based on experience) Location: 231 Elizabeth Street, Sydney (Tuesdays and Thursdays in-office) Start Date: ASAP Contract Duration: 6 months Hours: 40 hours per week (some on-call hours may be required) Pay Rate: Media Officer: $500–$560 super daily Senior Media Officer: $600–$700 super daily Primary purpose of the role: The primary purpose of this role is to support the Manager, Media and lead as a senior member in a team that provides strategic advice, contributing to the maintenance and enhancement of the reputation of Transport for NSW and agencies. The role contributes to the development and implementation of proactive and reactive media, social media and public relations strategies, and will manage issues and crisis collaboratively with a strategic focus aligned to Transport’s vision and values. Key Accountabilities: Media Statements & Spokesperson : Prepare and issue media statements, ensuring approvals, and act as an organisational spokesperson when required. Strategic Communication Support : Monitor state-wide media, provide advice, prepare materials for public engagements, and respond to media inquiries, including out-of-hours. Crisis & Media Issue Management : Research, prepare, and respond to media releases during major issues or crises. Media Relations : Provide timely and accurate responses to media inquiries, ensuring high service levels. Media Monitoring & Issue Management : Support media monitoring and issue management, providing key information to stakeholders. Event Coordination & Public Speaking : Assist in event preparation and write public speaking materials for senior leadership. Relationship Building : Foster strong relationships with media, Ministers' offices, and internal teams across Transport for NSW. Leadership Behaviours : Demonstrate leadership behaviours to support organisational goals and deliver outcomes for communities.
