About Your Team The Engagement and Advancement department is responsible for positioning, promoting and protecting QIMR Berghofer, as well as raising vital funding through philanthropic endeavours, corporate partnerships and community engagement to support the remarkable life-saving work of the Institute’s researchers. The Editor in Chief will work closely with all four teams within Engagement and Advancement (Fundraising and Philanthropy; Brand, Marketing and Creative Services; Media, Communication and Government Relations; and Community Engagement and Events) to support and enhance the content delivered across the Institute’s channels. Role Purpose / Responsibilities Applications are invited for experienced Editors to provide strategic editorial oversight and coordination across the Institute’s suite of communication channels. The Editor in Chief plays a unifying function by bringing structure, alignment, and editorial insight to ensure content is strategically planned, audience-focused, and delivered with maximum impact. This role is ideal for a content strategist and audience engagement specialist who is also a highly capable project manager. Working in close collaboration with content creators and channel leads, the Editor in Chief will: Provide editorial direction where needed Align storytelling and audience segmentation across platforms Prevent duplication and strengthen message coherence Help measure impact and translate insights into action Act as a connector and calendar keeper across all publishing efforts This role adds value by bringing a strategic lens to our editorial efforts—supporting teams to deliver more impactful content that resonates, engages, and inspires. About You To be successful in this position, you will have: Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant training in journalism, communications, media, publishing, or a related field Proven experience in a senior editorial or content leadership role across digital and print platforms Strong capabilities as a content strategist with deep understanding of audience segmentation and engagement Outstanding writing, editing, and storytelling skills with strong news judgment and audience insight Demonstrated ability to lead multi-platform content strategies tailored to diverse audience groups Excellent project management and editorial planning skills, with experience coordinating multiple contributors and deadlines Analytical mindset with ability to measure content performance and act on insights Passion for impactful communication, science, medical/health, and/or not-for-profit work Proven experience collaborating with marketing, fundraising, or engagement teams Please refer to the position description on the QIMR Berghofer Careers website for a full list of responsibilities and key selection criteria.
