This is a hands-on, specialist role - and the one thing we absolutely need you to bring is solid, real-world experience in envelope manufacture. Die cutting, machine set-up, adjusting and running - if you've worked on envelope machinery before, we want to talk to you. Our envelope machine is a W&D 327 - vintage (1977), yes, but reliable, and we keep a good stock of spare parts on hand along with an additional machine. If you enjoy keeping an older, dependable machine running well, you'll fit right in here. This is a genuine, ongoing full-time position within our business, based at our Bassendean facility. Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 per annum , depending on experience. About the role: Envelope blank cutting - operating our Sysco rise and fall die press to cut envelope blanks ready for the machines Machine set-up and adjustment - setting up our W&D 327 envelope machine for different sizes, adjusting each part of the machine as the blanks travel through Run sizes - our envelope runs range from 5,000 to 50,000, generally replenishing our own shelf stock across many colours of high-end German and Japanese specialty invitational stocks, between 100gsm and 130gsm. When a container of paper arrives, it's all hands-on deck with larger runs in succession; in between, it's usually one size change and run a week Routine maintenance - keeping the machines running well, doing some mechanical diagnosis, and arranging repairs when needed. Many repairs, and certainly the maintenance on our 1977 machine, are done in house, with external engineer support brought in Gum know-how - making sure the right seal, back, window or special gum is used for the job Stock picking - picking flat sheet stock for envelope runs using the picking ladder and forklift and flagging any discrepancies Quality control - keeping an eye on cutting, folding, printing, gumming and any attachments to make sure everything's up to standard Inventory control - keeping tabs on glues and envelope boxes, and letting us know when stock is running low Training teammates - you'll pick up where our current assistant's training left off. He's a few months into learning die cutting and understands the machine well, but there's still a way to go - you'll guide him the rest of the way while training him more broadly in envelope manufacture Production paperwork - keeping accurate records of repairs, changes and internal paperwork Experience: Significant, hands-on experience in envelope manufacture is non-negotiable - machine set-up, die cutting, adjusting, or ideally all of it. If you've never worked on envelope machinery, this role isn't the right fit. Mechanical aptitude is essential - you'll be doing genuine hands-on diagnosis and repair work, not just calling someone else in. Beyond that, you're someone who: Takes pride in a well-run machine and a quality envelope Can work independently without someone looking over your shoulder Loves solving problems - mechanical, practical, whatever comes up Has great hand-eye coordination and physical stamina - you'll be on your feet, picking stock and operating machinery Brings a can-do attitude and doesn't take themselves too seriously Is looking for stability - this is a long-term role, not a steppingstone About Peterkin: We're a family-owned Premium Paper Merchant and Luxury Printery that's been going since 1996.
