About Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd (KAMS) is the peak regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Established in 1986, KAMS was formed to provide a unified voice for Aboriginal health and wellbeing, and to deliver centralised resources and collective advocacy in partnership with its Member Services. KAMS is governed by a Board of Directors made up of Aboriginal health leaders from across its Member Services. Position Overview The Senior Youth Mental Health Professional (YMHP) at headspace Broome will be based in Broome. WA, on a Full-time basis, 6 months fixed term contract with possibility of extension . This role will play a vital role in delivering quality mental health care focused on young individuals aged 12-25. This position emphasises a holistic and culturally responsive approach, providing assessment, early intervention, and therapeutic support for youth facing mental health challenges. SYMHP provides senior-level clinical oversight and supports the Clinical Lead by offering timely guidance, consultation,and decision-making support to the clinical team, particularly in relation to risk management, escalation processes, and suicide-prevention responses. The role also includes delivering advanced clinical assessment and evidence-based interventions for complex referrals, including young people presenting with suicidal risk, or may require support after an attempt. Key Responsibilities Provide initial screening and evidence-based assessment of young people to identify individuals experiencing biopsychosocial concerns including but not limited to, mental health and / or alcohol and other drug issues, interpersonal difficulties, family conflict, or is at risk of causing harm to themselves or others. Provide clinical oversight by offering timely guidance, consultation, and decision-making support to team members involved in integrative care, in relation to risk management and escalation processes when the Clinical Lead is unavailable Engage with diverse backgrounds and cultures, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings for integrated care planning. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and comply with reporting requirements. Candidate Profile The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills: Tertiary qualifications and eligibility for professional registration in relevant disciplines (Psychologist, Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist). Experience providing evidence-based therapies such as CBT and Narrative Therapy to young people. Ability to conduct psychosocial assessments and identify treatment needs. Strong knowledge of social and emotional wellbeing issues affecting youth, particularly in Aboriginal communities. Proven experience in family-inclusive practise and working within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent communication skills to connect with young individuals effectively. Strong organisational skills and proficiency in using technology for documentation. Current driver’s licence, National Police Clearance, and Working with Children Check.
