PASTRY COOK We’re looking for a skilled and creative Pastry Cook to join our Darwin café team and support the preparation of high-quality pastries, baked goods and café menu items. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on pastry experience, strong attention to detail, and a passion for producing fresh, consistent and visually appealing products for dine-in and takeaway customers. Food Quality & Presentation – Ensure all pastry products are prepared to a high standard of taste, texture, appearance and consistency, suitable for café display and customer service. Menu Support & Product Development – Assist with developing and refining pastry items, seasonal specials and café offerings that complement the business’s specialty coffee, sandwiches, toasties, fresh juices and casual dining menu. Kitchen Operations – Support daily food preparation workflows, including weighing ingredients, preparing doughs, fillings, creams and toppings, operating ovens and kitchen equipment, and maintaining efficient production. Food Safety & Hygiene – Follow food safety procedures, workplace hygiene standards, safe food handling practices and cleaning schedules in accordance with café policies and relevant health requirements. Stock & Ingredient Control – Monitor pastry ingredients, assist with stock rotation, minimise wastage, and notify management of supply needs or quality issues. Team Collaboration – Work closely with kitchen staff, baristas and café service team members to ensure timely preparation, smooth service flow and a positive workplace culture. Flexibility & Reliability – Manage competing preparation tasks in a fast-paced café environment, including early starts, weekend work and peak service periods where required. Skills and Experience: Relevant commercial cookery, patisserie or baking qualification, or equivalent industry experience. At least 2 years’ experience in pastry preparation, patisserie, bakery, café or hospitality kitchen operations. Strong knowledge of French pastry techniques, baking methods, ingredient preparation and presentation standards. Experience preparing cakes, pastries, sweet goods, desserts and café-style baked products. Ability to follow recipes, maintain consistency and meet production deadlines. BAKER We’re looking for an experienced and reliable Baker to join our Darwin café team and support the production of fresh baked goods for daily café service. This role suits someone with strong baking skills, excellent time management and a commitment to producing consistent, high-quality products for customers in a busy café environment. Location: Darwin, NT Salary: $70,000 to $80,000 super Employment Type: Full-time Key Responsibilities: Baking Production – Prepare, mix, shape, prove, bake and finish a range of breads, rolls, pastries, savoury baked goods and café bakery products in-house in line with recipes, production requirements and quality standards. Dough & Ingredient Preparation – Measure and mix ingredients accurately, prepare doughs and batters, monitor fermentation and proving processes, and ensure products are baked to the correct texture, flavour and appearance. Café Menu Support – Produce baked goods that support the café’s menu, including products used for sandwiches, toasties, pastries, breakfast items and takeaway offerings. Quality Control – Maintain consistent product quality, portion sizes, freshness, presentation and food safety standards across all baked goods. Equipment Operation – Safely operate bakery and kitchen equipment, including mixers, ovens, proofers, scales, slicers and other food preparation tools. Food Safety & Cleanliness – Comply with food hygiene, workplace health and safety, safe food handling and cleaning procedures at all times. Stock & Waste Management – Assist with ingredient stock control, stock rotation, ordering requirements, storage procedures and minimising food waste. Flexibility & Drive – Adapt to changing production needs, manage early starts and weekend shifts where required, and contribute to the ongoing success of the café. Skills and Experience: Relevant baking, commercial cookery or hospitality qualification, or equivalent industry experience. At least 2 years’ experience as a Baker or in a bakery, café, restaurant or hospitality food production environment. Strong knowledge of baking techniques, dough preparation, proving, baking times and temperature control. Experience preparing breads, rolls, pastries, savoury bakery items and café-style baked goods.
