What are Operators & Skilled Operators @ Gunnedah Shire Council? We are seeking dedicated Operators to join our dynamic team in the Construction and Maintenance Department. In this role, you will be responsible for operating various construction and maintenance machinery, assisting in infrastructure projects, and ensuring the upkeep of public facilities and spaces. Our Operators (Grade 2 - Grade 5) complete a variety of tasks daily, which can include operation of Rollers, Skid Steer, Watercart, Slasher and more. To progress from Grade 2 > Grade 5 one must obtain their HR licence, relevant plant experience and successful completion of a relevant Cert 3. (If successful in obtaining an offer, Gunnedah Shire Council will support you through this process via ongoing training and development, including annual performance evaluations and training recommendations) Our Skilled Operators (Grade 7) must have all prior qualifications and skills as a Grade 5 Operator, but also requires specialist operation experience with the following pieces of equipment: Excavator, Backhoe, Dozer, Grader, Truck and Dog, Jet Patcher, Loader and more. Your entry grade is determined on current skills, qualifications and experience, with career and salary progression once essential qualifications have been obtained (If successful, Gunnedah Shire Council will support you through this process) Key Responsibilities For This Role Include Operate and maintain assigned plant effectively, safely and in accordance with standing operating procedures. Ensure compliance with Council’s WHS policies and with legislative requirements or regulations.Accurately perform general road maintenance operational works required to construct, repair, maintain Council’s infrastructure. This would typically include but not be limited to; the operation of small plant and hand tools, performing traffic control duties and applying basic engineering principles, systems and processes.Undertake occasional staff supervision and quality control where assigned.Work constructively and cooperatively with other members of the department to complete work programs in accordance with agreed timeframes and standards.Apply WHS and risk management systems in accordance with Council’s policies and procedures.Complete assigned administrative tasks accurately in accordance with Council’s policies and procedures. Maintain required qualifications essential for the position and undertake agreed training to meet the position’s desired skill level.Participate in on-call duties as required.
