We're a Western Australian manufacturer looking for a highly skilled drafter to take on advanced design and detailing work. This is a hands-on senior technical role. You'll work autonomously alongside our existing draftsperson, both reporting to the Head of Engineering. The work suits someone who is fast, accurate and comfortable owning their workload with minimal supervision — and who can push SolidWorks beyond standard modelling into automation that saves the business real time. What you’ll be doing Produce complex parts, large assemblies, and manufacturing-ready drawings in SolidWorks. Build and maintain SolidWorks automation — macros, configurations, design tables, and configurators — to speed up repetitive design work. Self-manage priorities and deliver drawings that go straight to the floor without rework. Work closely with engineering and production to resolve design and manufacturing detail. Collaborate with engineers, managers, and workshop personnel to ensure drawings align with project specifications and production capabilities. Provide design options and solutions to clients and suppliers. Assist in R&D and the development of new products. Help maintain drawing and document control systems. Essential Criteria Advanced SolidWorks proficiency — complex parts, large assemblies, detailed drawings (machined parts and weldments as relevant to our product). SolidWorks automation — macros/API, design tables, configurations, equations; configurator experience (DriveWorks or equivalent) highly regarded. Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage your own workload. Sound drawing standards — AS 1100 and GD&T. Track record of manufacturing-ready output — drawings that reach production without rework. High attention to detail and accuracy. Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a small team environment. Able to work unsupervised and achieve agreed outcomes within set time frames. Australian citizen or permanent resident with full work rights. Desirable Criteria Engineering background or mechanical qualification. Practical manufacturing knowledge. Understanding of machining (turning/milling), fits and tolerances for machined parts, and design for manufacture (DFM). SolidWorks PDM experience. CNC machining / fabrication / weldment experience. Exposure to ERP/MRP or BOM integration. What’s in it for you Be a key team member at an Australian manufacturer utilising robotics and automation. A role with genuine autonomy and the chance to shape how design work gets done. A stable role with a company that’s growing. Uniform provided.
