OverviewProfectus is seeking an experienced Accessibility Specialist to assess and improve the accessibility of a SharePoint-based intranet for an Australian Government department. You will know SharePoint inside out and understand what it takes to test a site properly for accessibility, from screen reader behaviour to keyboard navigation and document structure. You will review the intranet against current accessibility standards, identify barriers that need remediation, and produce clear, prioritised recommendations that lift the platform's accessibility maturity and reduce risk for users who depend on an inclusive, equitable experience. What You Will Likely Do Day to DayWork hands-on across a SharePoint intranet, navigating sites, pages, libraries, lists, web parts, and navigation to assess how accessible the experience is for all usersRun accessibility testing using a mix of manual review, automated tooling, and assistive technologies such as screen readers and keyboard-only navigationInspect SharePoint pages and components for issues such as heading structure, colour contrast, alt text, link context, focus order, form labelling, and document accessibilityAssess conformance against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA and related standardsDocument findings clearly, capturing the issue, the impact on users, the relevant success criterion, and a practical fixBuild a prioritised, actionable remediation report that the platform and content teams can work fromEngage with content authors, SharePoint administrators, and business stakeholders to validate findings and advise on accessible design and authoring practicesProvide guidance on how to embed accessibility into ongoing SharePoint content and site managementProvide regular updates and reporting aligned to departmental governance requirements Required ExperienceDemonstrated experience delivering accessibility assessments, ideally on SharePoint or comparable intranet and content platformsStrong working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 Level AA and experience applying manual, automated, and assistive technology testing methodsPractical familiarity with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365, including pages, web parts, libraries, and document accessibilityFamiliarity with accessibility standards and obligations such as the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, AS EN 301 549, and the Digital Experience PolicyAbility to produce clear, prioritised remediation reporting for technical and non-technical audiencesStrong stakeholder engagement and documentation skillsExperience working within government or similarly secure, regulated environments Desirable ExperienceRelevant accessibility certifications such as CPACC or WASExperience uplifting digital accessibility maturity across an organisationExperience advising content authors and platform teams on accessible practicesExperience remediating accessibility issues, not only identifying them Security Clearance RequirementsMust be an Australian CitizenMust hold a current and active NV1 Security Clearance (minimum) Working ArrangementsOnsite in Canberra Why ProfectusProfectus partners with government to deliver trusted, secure capability across complex programs.
