About the role As our ACT Engagement Officer, you’ll be out and about across Canberra and surrounding regions, working with community groups, health professionals, and the public to increase awareness and understanding of diabetes. You will: Deliver engaging presentations to small and large groups across all ages and abilities Represent Diabetes Australia at community and health events Build strong relationships with local stakeholders and partners Support people to better understand their risk and navigate available care and services Help drive early detection and prevention outcomes through education and awareness initiatives Ensure program activities and reporting align with contract deliverables and outcomes Work collaboratively with the broader team to deliver meaningful, measurable impact No two days will look the same, one day you may be presenting to a local community group, the next supporting a large-scale event or working closely with healthcare stakeholders. About you You’re someone who genuinely enjoys working with people and making a difference in the community. You bring confidence, warmth, and emotional intelligence to every interaction and you know how to adapt your approach to connect with a wide range of audiences. You’ll likely thrive in this role if you: Feel confident presenting to groups of all sizes, from small community settings to larger forums Have strong emotional intelligence and can quickly read a room, adjusting your style to suit different audiences and situations Bring experience in health promotion, community engagement, or public health, and understand how to communicate important health messages clearly and respectfully Are an excellent communicator who can translate complex information into simple, relatable language Are organised and reliable, with the ability to manage your time, work independently, and deliver against agreed targets and contract outcomes Enjoy building relationships and can confidently engage with community groups, stakeholders and health professionals Are a true team player who values collaboration, communication, and contributing to a positive team culture We’re also looking for someone who: Is comfortable working out in the community, with a high level of visibility and accountability Brings a proactive mindset and takes pride in delivering high-quality, impactful work Can manage competing priorities while maintaining professionalism, accuracy, and care Additional requirements Current driver’s licence (regular travel across the ACT required) Valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration or happy to require one.
