Diary and Administrative Officer (EOA) Senator Carol Brown Senator for Tasmania The office of Senator Carol Brown is seeking applications for a full-time, ongoing Electorate Officer (EOA), based in the Parliamentarian’s Electorate Office in Hobart, TASMANIA. Position Overview The Parliamentarian is seeking an enthusiastic and capable person with strong communication and organisational skills to join the team as a Diary and Administrative Officer with the responsibility of managing the Senator’s diary and providing considered support and advice across a broad range of subjects both to the Parliamentarian and members of the community. This position will provide administrative and clerical assistance to support the effective operation of the electorate office. The successful applicant will work as part of a small team undertaking a diverse range of administrative activities, sometimes under strict time constraints with minimal supervision. The role requires high levels of professionalism, confidentiality, discretion, and emotional intelligence, with an exceptional ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people. The key duties of the position include but are not limited to : Function as the first point of contact for constituents and other visitors to the Electorate Office, working to resolve their issues and answer any queries in a researched, courteous, sensitive, and prompt manner. Help manage the Parliamentarian’s diary including appointments, travel and other logistics or changes. Assist with a range of general administrative tasks within the office including invoice payments, management of supplies, data entry and database management. Facilitate ongoing direct voter contact and management of incoming and outgoing correspondence. Liaise with Government departments and other organisations, organise functions and meetings. Support and maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace culture. Intrastate travel as required. Other duties as directed. The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience Experience in office administration, stakeholder engagement, customer service and event management Ability to engage and communicate with a broad range of people. An understanding of Australia’s system of government and parliamentary processes. Highly motivated and able to work proactively, both independently and in a small team. Demonstrated professional integrity and the ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong attention to detail. Well-developed IT skills including word processing, spreadsheets and database management. Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple and competing work tasks in a fast-paced working environment. Employment conditions: The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include: A commencing salary between $74,537 and $78,911 ($77,071 and $81,594 effective 5 August 2026) will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills. An additional optional allowance of up to $18,576 ($19,208 effective 5 August 2026) may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements. Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements). An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.
