An Australian family-owned manufacturer with more than 45 years in the timber construction industry is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing machinery team in Stapylton. The business designs and builds custom industrial machinery for timber frame and truss manufacturers across Australia and internationally. Every machine is engineered in-house, configured to each customer's exact requirements, and no two are the same. The team calls it an Australian success story, and they mean it. This is a project-based design role with real ownership and real variety. You will take machines from brief to build: 3D modelling, calculations, FEA, revisions, and floor sign-off. The engineering team is growing and R&D in automation and robotics is live. Day Uniform allowance plus safety boots for factory visits Staff events including State of Origin and team functions Employee Assistance Program for all staff 45 years of stability with people who stay for the long term Responsibilities Design custom machinery from concept to completed assembly Create 3D models and production drawings in Inventor Perform stress, load and motor sizing calculations Run FEA analysis to validate structural performance Manage drawing reviews, revisions and final release Support production during machinery builds on the floor Liaise with purchasing on components and specifications Update designs as customer requirements evolve Contribute to robotics, automation and R&D projects About You Thorough and detail-focused with high quality standards Curious engineer who loves understanding how things work Adapt easily when customer requirements change Communicate well with engineers and production teams Own projects from concept through to completion Passionate about robotics, automation and innovation Essential Skills Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 3 years designing industrial or capital equipment Proficient in Inventor, SolidWorks or similar CAD Experience with large assemblies, BOMs and revisions Manufacturing design and drawing release experience Practical FEA experience with sound engineering judgement Strong knowledge of stress, fatigue and materials Design for manufacture, machining and welding knowledge Experience taking designs through to manufacture Heavy machinery or industrial equipment experience Full Australian work rights required How to Apply This role is being managed exclusively by Fiona Sander at Barclay Recruitment. 0482 076 barclayrecruitment.com.au
