A Marine Engineer is needed to lead the technical services function for cutting-edge boat manufacturing. Your new role As the Design & Configuration Lead, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing system design and drafting functions, ensuring outputs are compliant, accurate, and aligned to required standards. You will manage configuration across the full lifecycle of projects, ensuring robust documentation, traceability, and engineering integrity are upheld. This position requires a blend of technical leadership, hands-on design capability, and stakeholder coordination across engineering, production, and external design / compliance partners. Key responsibilities will include: Leading the development and delivery of compliant, fit-for-purpose system designs Managing configuration control, including documentation, revisions, and drawing registers Supporting quality management systems (QMS) and engineering procedures Monitoring build activities to ensure alignment with approved designs and managing deviations Coordinating internal and external designers, engineers, and suppliers Providing technical input into safety-by-design and risk mitigation processes Ensuring design deliverables are completed to agreed timelines and project priorities Supporting research and development initiatives across materials, design, and manufacturing Coordinating and managing a complex certification process with external vendors What you'll need to succeed You will be an experienced marine engineering professional with qualifications in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering. You'll also need a proven background in regulated marine design environments / specialist boatbuilding. You will bring: A degree in Engineering and/or Naval Architecture (or equivalent experience) Extensive experience (circa 7 years) in design of systems requiring regulatory certification Proven capability managing design and drafting teams Experience coordinating multidisciplinary stakeholders and external design agencies Strong understanding of configuration management across complex projects Proficiency in 2D/3D CAD (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office/SharePoint The ability to interpret and apply industry standards and classification rules (e.g. AMSA, DNV or similar is highly advantageous).
