Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future. Our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice, alongside Team Downer, partners with CASG and NSSG as a major service provider to Defence. We are looking for a Systems Engineer to work on Defence C2 and Land Systems projects in Canberra, ACT. What you’ll do Maintain and develop systems engineering artefacts including Systems Engineering Management Plans (SEMPs) and Technical Certification Plans (TCPs) Support engineering and configuration management activities for CAF16 systems within an integrated workforce Develop, review and assure capability engineering requirements and procedural documentation in line with Defence frameworks Provide engineering support to Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) and Engineering Review Boards (ERBs), including preparation and quality assurance of submissions Perform quality assurance of vendor engineering documentation and support engineering audits of sustainment and support service providers What you’ll bring Demonstrated systems engineering experience, preferably within a CASG or Defence environment Knowledge of Defence engineering frameworks including LMSM, DASR, and technical certification processes Experience with systems integration, requirements management, and management of technical risk (including software safety and security) Strong technical writing capability with the ability to produce assured engineering documentation Engineering qualifications and the ability to attain appropriate Technical/Engineering Authority Must hold and maintain an AGSVA Security clearance; ITAR compliance may also be required Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and a commitment to delivering high‑quality outcomes for our clients Benefits Meaningful work: help deliver critical Defence projects that protect Australia and shape its future Professional development: access career mapping, accelerated learning programs, and shared learning through Communities of Practice Great perks: discounts on healthcare, retail, vehicles, and more through Perks@Downer Veteran support: up to 20 days of Reservist Leave to stay connected post‑service Inclusion and belonging: We are committed to building a team that reflects the diverse communities we serve and we welcome people of all ages, genders, sexual orientations, cultures, abilities, and lived experiences.
