Primary objective Provide dental assistance in a professional manner, which will contribute to the improved oral health and wellbeing of clients, families and communities. Context statement The applicant is required to undertake duties in a variety of locations within the region, assisting members of the dental health care team. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide chair-side assistance for dental professionals providing services to adults and children in a variety of locations and settings throughout the region. 2. Maintain, prepare and set up of dental equipment, instruments, medicaments and materials. 3. Comply with infection control measures to Australian standards, and departmental procedures to ensure patient and employee safety. 4. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplace. 5. Maintain order and store stock, instruments, equipment, materials and medicaments, according to relevant Standards, manufacturer’s specifications and organisational procedures. 6. Assist with the management of appointment schedules including booking, cancellation, rebooking and confirming appointments using paper and electronic schedules. 7. Actively participate in quality improvement activities and staff development programs. Selection criteria Essential 1. Certificate III in Dental Assisting or Accredited Qualification awarded by an Australian Institution and relevant experience in dental assisting. 2. Northern Territory driver’s licence or commitment to obtain during probation period. 3. Demonstrated self-motivation, initiative, and ability to work effectively as a pro-active team member in a multidisciplinary team. 4. Well-developed time management skills and the ability to prioritise competing requirements and work effectively under pressure with frequently changing priorities. 5. Good verbal and written communication skills, with a high standard of both conflict resolution and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse range of clients and co-workers. 6. Flexibility to adapt work practices in a variety of clinic locations and environments, including Correctional Centres, Special Needs and schools. 7. Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities by light aircraft or 4WD vehicle for periods of up to five days. Desirable 1. Previous experience in rural/remote service delivery. The role will facilitate support and supervision of dental assistants, while supporting the coordination of dental services in collaboration with remote clinic manager and operational management to ensure efficiency and effective delivery across regional areas and surrounding remote communities. Key duties and responsibilities 1. Provide comprehensive dental assisting support to dental professionals offering services to children and adults in various locations and environments across the region. 2. Coordinate and manage the operational functions of the dental clinics in community, remote and school, by overseeing office supplies/clinical consumables, maintenance/availability of clinical equipment, record management, and waste management. 3. Collaborate with Remote Clinic Manager and operational management team to coordinate and support the provision of dental services. Includes referral screening, scheduling client appointments, coordinating with hospital management on theatre lists/schedules, and managing waitlists/recalls. 4. Liaising and engaging health professionals, government agencies and key community stakeholders. This includes participating in Oral Health programs, projects, initiatives, and health promotion activities. 5. Supervise and coordinate the induction of new dental assistants and trainee dental assistants. 6. Oversee the implementation of policies, procedures, and practices related to dental assistants in collaboration with Senior Dental Assistants. Including participation in continuous quality improvement, clinical audits, and the implementation and adherence to infection control standards and work health and safety protocols. 7. Follow defined service quality standards, departmental procedures work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces. 8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour. Selection criteria Essential 1. Certificate III in Dental Assisting by an Australian Institution and relevant experience in dental assisting. 2. Extensive experience and knowledge of the responsibilities and duties of dental assisting practices, including theatre and chairside assisting, oral health promotion, and infection control guidelines and procedures in alignment with current Australian Standards. 3. High level interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate professionally and effectively at all levels and with people from diverse backgrounds. This includes developing and sustaining relationships with management team, other government agencies, external stakeholders and health service providers. 4. Demonstrate organisational and time management skills with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision or collaboratively within a team, effectively prioritising tasks, adhering to strict deadlines, and addressing urgent requests. 5. Ability and willingness to travel to remote communities by light aircraft or 4WD vehicle for periods of up to five days (or longer can be negotiated). Desirable 6. Certificate IV in Dental Assisting- Oral Health Promotion from an accredited Qualification awarded by an Australian Institution and relevant experience in dental assisting. 7.
