The Board seeks to appoint a Chief Executive Officer to lead the next phase of the Scheme’s evolution. This is a significant Queensland leadership role, with responsibility for delivering measurable environmental, social and economic outcomes at scale. The opportunity Reporting to the Chair and Board, the CEO is accountable for the overall leadership, performance and direction of COEX. The role carries broad authority across strategy, operations, stakeholder engagement and governance, ensuring the Scheme continues to deliver on its obligations and public purpose. You will lead a mature and visible organisation with an established footprint across the state, while guiding its ongoing transformation, strengthening circular economy outcomes, deepening community impact and maintaining the trust of government, industry and the public. Key responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Governance Translate Board direction into clear, executable strategy and enterprise priorities Maintain a high standard of governance, integrity, and accountability Lead organisational alignment to purpose, values and long‑term outcomes Operational and Financial Stewardship Oversee the effective operation of the Scheme, including compliance with regulatory and Product Responsibility obligations Ensure disciplined financial management, risk oversight and performance delivery Build organisational capability and lead a high-performing executive team Stakeholder Leadership and Public Interface Act as the principal representative of COEX with government, regulators, industry and community stakeholders Maintain constructive partnerships across a complex ecosystem of operators, logistics providers and material processors Contribute to broader policy and sector conversations relating to circular economy and waste reduction Success in the role will be reflected in: Sustained stakeholder trust and effective ecosystem alignment Strong environmental outcomes, including improved material recovery and circularity Tangible community benefit, including financial returns to charities, schools and local groups Continued modernisation of systems, data capability and operational efficiency A resilient, values‑led organisational culture About you The Board is seeking an experienced executive with the judgment and perspective to lead in a public‑purpose environment of scale and scrutiny. As a trusted advisor and executive, you will bring: C‑suite leadership experience in a complex organisational setting A demonstrated ability to work effectively with government, regulators and public policy frameworks Strong commercial, financial and operational capability, applied in a purpose‑driven or regulated environment Credibility in leading stakeholder ecosystems where outcomes depend on collaboration rather than control A leadership style grounded in integrity, clarity and accountability Experience in recycling, waste management, manufacturing or environmental services will be well regarded, though not essential.
