The Position This is a senior, standalone role for an experienced environmental and sustainability specialist who thrives working autonomy and influence. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager – Work Health Safety and Environment (WHSE), you will be the organisation’s subject matter expert across all things environmental: from maintaining our ISO 14001:2015 – certified Environment Management System (EMS), to driving meaningful reductions in waste and energy consumption, to ensuing our operations meet every legal and regulatory obligation. You won’t be managing a team – you’ll be managing outcomes. This means building strong relationships across operations, engineering, facilities, and executive leadership, and making a genuine mark on how a complex, high-value organisation manages its environmental footprint and climate-related risks. Key Responsibilities Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of the company’s EMS in accordance with ISO 14001:2015. Develop, review, and maintain EMS documentation including the Environmental Policy, procedures, work instructions, and records. Identify and assess environmental risks associated with operational activities and maintain the environmental aspects and impacts register, ensuring it remains current and reflects operational activities, products, and services. Conduct climate related risks and opportunities (CRROs) to identify and assess CRROs that could reasonably be expected to affect CEAs prospects Conduct climate related scenario analysis Liaise with regulatory authorities including the relevant state/territory EPA and Commonwealth agencies on environmental compliance matters (NGER Act 2007, EPBC Act 1999). Develop and report on environmental and operational climate risk objectives, metrics, controls and action plans. Champion a culture of resource efficiency and waste minimisation across all business units. Support the organisation's compliance with applicable energy reporting obligations and climate reporting obligations (e.g., ASSB S2, NGER Act 2007, EPBC Act 1999 where applicable). Maintain a current register of applicable environmental legislation, licences, approvals, and obligations relevant to all operational sites. Develop environmental sustainability and energy reduction targets and action plans, and report performance to senior leadership on a regular basis. Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related discipline are preferable Sound knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, including state/territory EPA legislation, the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007, and relevant Commonwealth frameworks Proven capability in pollution prevention, waste management, and energy efficiency programme delivery in an operational environment. Experience operating in a Defence-industry, advanced manufacturing, or similarly regulated environment Ongoing knowledge of current WHSE legislation and regulations is advantageous Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as a senior specialist, managing competing priorities without direct supervision.
