Context Join Systra ANZ as a Senior Railway Telecommunications Consultant and play a key role in delivering complex telecommunications solutions for major rail projects. This is an opportunity for an experienced consultant to bring deep technical expertise, support multidisciplinary project delivery, and help shape high-quality outcomes for clients across mission-critical and business-critical railway environments. Working closely with the Telecommunications Lead and wider project teams, you will contribute to innovative, safe and efficient solutions while building strong client relationships and supporting the growth of the business. Missions/Main Duties About the role Lead the planning, delivery and technical review of railway telecommunications projects supporting mission-critical and business-critical applications. Provide advanced technical expertise across telecommunications systems, helping deliver high-quality, practical solutions tailored to client needs. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, commercial, contracts, procurement, scheduling and planning to achieve successful project outcomes. Support project scope definition, delivery planning, risk identification and resolution of complex technical challenges. Guide and mentor junior team members, helping raise technical capability and ensuring deliverables meet expected quality standards. Contribute to project performance by supporting timelines, budgets, resource planning and overall delivery efficiency. Act as a subject matter expert, bringing insight on industry trends, emerging technologies and innovative approaches that improve project outcomes. Support business development through technical input to bids, proposals, client presentations and strategic opportunities in the rail sector. Build strong, trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders through professional communication and consistent delivery excellence. Champion compliance with Systra ANZ’s Integrated Management System (IMS), with a strong focus on safety, quality, continuous improvement and regulatory alignment. Profile/Skills About you You have 6–8 years’ consulting experience in telecommunications, with strong expertise relevant to rail or other complex infrastructure environments. You hold a bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronic Engineering or a related discipline. You bring deep technical knowledge of telecommunications systems for railway applications, with the ability to solve complex problems in a pragmatic, client-focused way. You have experience, or strong familiarity, with IP/MPLS and ideally LTE/5G technologies; experience with vendors such as Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, Cisco or Juniper will be highly regarded. Experience deploying 3GPP networks (4G/5G) and IP/MPLS solutions in a railway environment will be highly valued. You are professionally chartered, working toward chartership, or eligible for equivalent recognition such as CPEng, RPEQ or NER. Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCIE, JNCIA or JNCDA will be viewed favourably. You are a clear communicator who can work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, producing high-quality reports and client-facing deliverables. You are collaborative, adaptable and commercially aware, with the ability to balance technical excellence, client needs, safety and project efficiency.
