SEDA is experiencing an increase in growth and is looking for an experienced Systems Architect to take the technical lead and Design Authority role for an exciting new optronics opportunity. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Systems Architect serves as SEDA's technical authority for a designated optronics product family. This role holds delegated Design Authority (DA) within Australia, acting as the primary technical reference point and main engineering interface with the customer. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: System architecture definition and function allocation across optical, mechanical, electronics, and software domains. Taking products from prototype through to commercially delivered, fielded solutions, not prototype delivery alone. Managing or directing multidisciplinary engineering teams within a project context. Establishing and implementing V&V programs, including ATPs, ATProcs, and formal Defence acceptance activities. Producing SAD, SSDD, ICD, and ATPRoc-class engineering documents against customer specifications. Leading complex technical reviews with customers and subcontractors. Exercising Design Authority or delegated technical authority for a product or product family. But what else? (advantages, specificities, etc.) We are looking for someone who can bring the following: - Technical Authority: Confident holding and defending architectural decisions from customers, subcontractors, or parent company counterparts. - Communication and Stakeholder Management: Ability to engage effectively at executive, program, and specialist technical levels, both with Defence customers and internal engineering teams. - Analytical and Problem-Solving: Structured approach to identifying and resolving architectural trade-offs, with clear and auditable design rationale. - Contractual Awareness: Understanding of Australian Defence acquisition frameworks, particularly ASDEFCON Complex Materiel. Candidate skills & requirements In this role, you must bring: Bachelor's degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline. - Demonstrated experience in EO/IR, optronics, imaging, or sensing product development programs. - Experience with MBSE tooling such as CATIA Magic, Rhapsody, or equivalent (SysML / UML) is desirable. - Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) with Engineers Australia, or actively working toward this credential, is desirable. - Applicants must be Australian citizens eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence security clearance to Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
