Job Title Site HSE Manager – Rural NSW This role will be working for a highly regulatable sub contractor with a large Australia power project. This role will be to support a key chapter in the construction phase of this project. Managing the construction phase as well as a growing team of HSEQ professionals. Therefore previous experience managing a team of 8 headcount plus underground mining or tunnelling experience will be a pre-requisites to this role as well as high risk electrical construction. Reporting to a highly respected Head of HSE, close collaboration with the General Site Manager. Role overview Lead the development, implementation, and promotion of a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment for the electrical and mechanical scope at the construction site. Ensure compliance with regulations, contract requirements, schedules, and budget targets. On-site leadership of the site HSE team, coordinating with the client project team, client teams, sub contractors and industrial relations Key responsibilities HSE compliance: meet regulations, contractual reporting, and standards (ISO 45001, 14001, 9001, COR if applicable) and align with my client’s HSE Management System. HSE program implementation: design and run site-specific programs (Site Safety Management Plan, risk assessments, SWMS, SOPs, environmental plans, confined space, ventilation, lift plans, etc.). Team supervision and planning: oversee daily HSE activities, participate in work planning, proactively address bottlenecks. Audits and improvement: conduct site audits, drive HSE audits, develop corrective action plans with the Head of HSE. KPIs, incident management, and reporting: track KPI compliance, investigate incidents/near misses, implement corrective actions, report to stakeholders. Training and governance: coach the project team, deliver or arrange HSE training, manage workers’ compensation and return-to-work programs. Environmental and ESG: lead energy conservation and waste reduction initiatives; contribute to governance and reporting. Requirements (essential) Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum 8 years in HSE management, preferably in renewable energy, mining, or construction. Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, standards, and best practices; proven program development/implementation track record. Leadership and communication skills; ability to influence stakeholders; proficiency with HSE software/tools. Experience in a management-level role; strong interpersonal and leadership abilities. Experience in power plant construction is a plus; oil & gas or heavy construction experience valued. Ability to build strong relationships with site management, client, subcontractors, and union workforce. Excellent safety track record, HSE training/education experience; basic SDS knowledge.
