Director of Nursing (Fixed term Contract) – Mental Health Services Location: Hobart, TAS Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract Hours: Full-Time About the Opportunity: An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Director of Nursing to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership within a leading mental health service in Hobart . This senior leadership position is ideal for a passionate nursing executive who is committed to delivering safe, person-centred, trauma-informed care while driving quality, innovation, and workforce excellence. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will lead nursing services, oversee clinical governance, support service development, and ensure the highest standards of patient care and regulatory compliance. Key Responsibilities: Clinical Leadership & Strategy: Provide strategic leadership to support high-quality mental health nursing practice. Contribute to organisational planning and service development initiatives. Lead workforce planning, resource allocation, and operational management. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Clinical Governance & Quality: Ensure compliance with relevant healthcare standards and regulatory requirements. Lead quality improvement, risk management, incident review, and accreditation activities. Monitor clinical performance and implement initiatives to improve patient outcomes. Promote recovery-focused, trauma-informed, and person-centred models of care. Workforce Leadership: Lead and mentor nursing teams across the service. Support recruitment, onboarding, education, and professional development. Ensure appropriate staffing levels, skill mix, and workforce capability. Manage employee relations matters in collaboration with executive leadership. Operational & Financial Management: Oversee nursing budgets and workforce expenditure. Drive efficient service delivery and operational performance. Manage patient flow, admissions, discharges, and bed utilisation. Contribute to sustainable service growth and achievement of key performance targets. Executive Responsibilities: Participate in executive leadership and governance activities. Prepare reports and provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders. Contribute to organisational culture, performance, and strategic objectives. Participate in senior nursing on-call responsibilities. Essential Requirements: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA. Minimum 5 years’ senior nursing leadership experience, ideally within mental health services. Postgraduate qualifications in Nursing, Mental Health, Health Management, Leadership, or a related field. Master’s degree completed or currently in progress. Demonstrated experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, risk management, and accreditation. Strong financial, operational, and workforce management experience. Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills. Desirable: Experience within private healthcare and/or not-for-profit organisations. Experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex healthcare environments. Understanding of contemporary mental health service delivery and trauma-informed care frameworks.
