Their operations are supported by extensive local research, trialling and field programs focused on delivering high-performing genetics suited to Australian conditions. The organisation’s Australian research program is driven by experienced local teams working closely with growers and contractors. With dedicated trial sites and breeding nurseries across key production regions, they play an important role in advancing genetics that support productivity, reliability and long-term performance within Australian farming systems. The Role Reporting to the Research Operations Manager, this role supports the full lifecycle of research field trials and breeding nurseries at the Wyreema Research Facility. You will operate specialised planting and harvesting equipment while assisting with trial establishment, maintenance, data collection and harvest activities across seasonal programs. Key responsibilities include: Prepare land including tillage, bed forming and fertiliser application Operate specialised research planting and harvesting machinery (GPS-enabled) Support irrigation (lateral/OH pipe/tape) and pesticide application Assist with STRIKE trials, breeding nurseries and parent seed programs Undertake seed packing, pollination, hand harvesting and shelling Collect trial data and plant samples with precision and accuracy Conduct daily pre-start checks and basic machinery maintenance This position works Monday to Friday, with extended hours and occasional weekends during peak planting and harvest windows. Expect up to 30% travel supporting northern research sites. About You You are a capable machinery operator who enjoys practical, hands-on work and understands the patience and attention to detail required in a research environment. You take safety seriously, communicate clearly and can manage seasonal workload peaks effectively. To succeed, you will have: Current HC licence (or ability to upgrade promptly; HR/LC license holders may be considered) Experience operating heavy plant and farm machinery (GPS preferred) Confidence working across full seasonal field cycles Strong computer skills across Microsoft Office Solid time management and organisational capability Ability to work both independently and within a team A strong safety focus and mechanical aptitude for basic servicing Chemical user accreditation is preferred (or willingness to obtain).
