The Role Our client is seeking an experienced Commercial/Privacy Lawyer to provide legal advice and support within a Commonwealth Department’s Legal team. The Responsibilities The key responsibilities will include: providing advice, research and support regarding varying commercial law, privacy law, information law and governance matters; assisting with privacy law, commercial law, information law and governance matters, including advice in relation to major projects related to ICT, construction, property, commercial negotiations, tenders and contracts; assisting with corporate governance including delegations and authorisations, memorandums of understanding and existing powers under legislation; engaging with internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to external agencies, and suppliers; assisting with precedent development and improvement of commercial and governance processes; and assisting the team to provide second counselling of advice work of junior legal personnel. The successful candidate will need to have outstanding stakeholder engagement skills. The Requirements Experience working as a lawyer with in-house Commonwealth government legal teams and having extensive experience advising on Commonwealth commercial, privacy and/or governance matters would be highly regarded. Legal qualifications, an NV1 clearance and a current practicing certificate (or the ability to quickly obtain) is essential. The successful candidates also need to be willing to undergo any required additional employment suitability checks.
