About the Role We are seeking an experienced Senior Project and Policy Officer to support the delivery of complex government initiatives focused on policy development, strategic projects and stakeholder engagement. This role combines project coordination, policy analysis and executive advisory responsibilities, requiring a professional who can confidently operate across multiple workstreams while managing competing priorities. Working within a high-performing team, you will contribute to the development and implementation of projects, provide strategic policy advice, prepare executive-level documentation and support decision-making processes that influence key government and industry outcomes. Role : Senior Project and Policy Officer – $600–$800 per day Super Location: Sydney CBD Start Date: ASAP Duration : Until January 29th 2027, with potential extension Key Responsibilities Coordinate and deliver project activities across multiple initiatives, ensuring milestones, budgets and deliverables are achieved. Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, risk registers and governance documentation. Monitor project performance and prepare regular status reports for senior leadership and stakeholders. Conduct policy research, environmental scanning and analysis to support strategic decision-making. Prepare briefing notes, discussion papers, submissions, executive correspondence and ministerial responses. Analyse legislation, policy frameworks and regulatory environments to identify emerging issues and opportunities. Support the development, implementation and evaluation of government policies and programs. Engage with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate collaboration, consultation and project outcomes. Provide high-quality advice to executives and senior decision-makers on project and policy matters. Identify and manage project risks, dependencies and issues while implementing mitigation strategies. Coordinate governance processes, steering committees and stakeholder forums. Contribute to business improvement initiatives and continuous improvement activities. Gather and interpret data to support evidence-based recommendations and reporting requirements. Ensure compliance with government standards, frameworks and project management methodologies. Support change management and communication activities associated with project delivery. About You Degree qualification in Public Policy, Government, Business, Economics, Environmental Studies, Project Management or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience. Proven experience delivering projects and/or policy initiatives within government, regulatory or highly regulated environments. Strong understanding of public sector governance, policy development and project delivery frameworks. Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and interpret complex information to develop practical recommendations. Experience preparing executive briefings, reports, submissions and ministerial correspondence. Highly developed stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation skills. Ability to influence senior leaders and build productive relationships across diverse stakeholder groups. Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Experience in risk management, governance and performance reporting. Advanced written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. Experience within energy, sustainability, infrastructure, environmental or regulatory sectors will be highly regarded. Formal project management qualifications such as PRINCE2, Agile, PMP or equivalent will be advantageous. Ability to obtain and maintain required government clearances and background checks. Must hold valid Australian working rights with unrestricted work eligibility for the duration of the contract. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
