Role Purpose The Cook / Chef role supports the daily preparation, cooking, and presentation of café meals to a consistent and professional standard. The role exists to maintain food quality, support efficient kitchen operations, meet customer service expectations, and ensure compliance with Australian food safety and workplace requirements. Key Responsibilities Cook Responsibilities Prepare ingredients, sauces, garnishes, and meal components for daily service. Cook café menu items according to standard recipes and portion requirements. Maintain consistent taste, texture, temperature, and presentation of meals. Assist with breakfast, lunch, and short-order cooking during service periods. Monitor cooking times and coordinate food preparation with service demand. Store, label, rotate, and handle ingredients safely to maintain freshness. Clean workstations, utensils, equipment, and food preparation areas after use. Chef Responsibilities Plan and supervise daily kitchen workflow to support smooth café operations. Prepare and cook more complex menu items, specials, and seasonal dishes. Assist with menu development, recipe costing, and portion control standards. Monitor food quality, presentation, and consistency before meals are served. Guide cooks or kitchen assistants on preparation methods and service standards. Review stock levels and support ordering of food supplies and kitchen items. Identify kitchen improvements to reduce waste and improve service efficiency. Common Responsibilities Comply with food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety procedures. Work collaboratively with front-of-house staff to ensure timely meal service. Report stock shortages, equipment faults, quality issues, and incidents to management. What We Are Looking For (Requirements) Common Requirements Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience in a commercial kitchen, café, or hospitality environment. Relevant qualification such as Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, Diploma of Hospitality, or equivalent practical training. Cook Requirements Strong practical skills in food preparation, basic cooking methods, and kitchen organisation. Ability to follow recipes, portion standards, and instructions accurately during busy service. Chef Requirements Strong knowledge of menu planning, food quality control, stock management, and kitchen workflow.
