JR48972 Technical Officer (Chemistry)- Material, Process, Civil and Infrastructure Laboratories We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer to join a leading Melbourne-based University within their STEM College. This role is a fantastic opportunity to support high-impact teaching and research activities. You will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operational functions of laboratories, ensuring they operate effectively and safely in compliance with legislative requirements and university policies. This role is based on-site in Bundoora, providing hands-on support to students, academics, and researchers. Key Responsibilities Operational Management: Prepare, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals. Compliance & Safety: Manage chemical inventories, disposal, and waste collection in accordance with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and dangerous goods legislation. You will also maintain a strong safety culture by managing Risk Assessments (RA) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Technical Support: Assist students and researchers with experimental setup, equipment operation, and methodologies. Maintenance: Coordinate equipment servicing, calibration, and preventative maintenance to ensure operational readiness. Procurement: Support procurement processes, including sourcing quotes, raising purchase requests, and monitoring critical laboratory consumables. Key Selection Criteria Substantial experience in chemical research laboratories, including Organic, Wet Chemistry, Asphalt, Laser, and Photovoltaic environments. Proven ability to manage chemical inventories, dangerous goods, and hazardous chemical compliance. Deep knowledge of laboratory safety systems, risk assessments (RA, ARA, ERA), and relevant Australian Standards. Strong organizational skills, with a track record of coordinating equipment maintenance and procurement. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide high-quality technical support to students and research staff. A proactive approach to continuous improvement and problem-solving within a multidisciplinary environment. Qualifications Postgraduate degree in Chemistry.
