Job description Our client is currently seeking an EL1 Assistant Director – Program Manager to join their team within a Federal Government Agency. About the role This role is responsible for leading program delivery and managing complex projects that support large-scale government initiatives. The position plays a key role in driving outcomes through effective program management, stakeholder engagement, and strategic oversight. The successful applicant will provide leadership across program activities, managing resources, stakeholders, and risks while ensuring delivery aligns with agency priorities. This role involves working across complex and sensitive issues, requiring sound judgement and strong decision-making capability. Responsibilities Overseeing and analysing program outputs, objectives, and delivery outcomes Managing and delivering projects with potential agency-wide impact Leading planning activities for longer-term program initiatives Coordinating specialist service providers, including contractors and consultants Undertaking risk assessment and implementing risk management strategies Providing expert advice and technical guidance across program activities Managing stakeholder relationships and representing the agency across forums Leading teams and contributing to a high-performing team culture Applying sound judgement in complex and evolving environments Key Skills and Experience Experience leading program delivery, projects, or reform initiatives Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving abilities Excellent communication skills, including writing for a government audience Sound judgement and governance capability Ability to manage stakeholder relationships and influence outcomes Experience working in complex and changing environments Experience leading teams within the public sector Knowledge of policy development, legislation, and strategic implementation Understanding of strategic commissioning and/or procurement frameworks Additional Information The role is full-time, commencing ASAP and running through to 31 December 2026, with a view to extension.
