Job description Our client is currently seeking an EL1 Assistant Director – Strategic Policy to join their team within a Federal Government Agency. About the role This role sits within a key reform-focused division and is responsible for leading the development and implementation of strategic policy to support broad government reform initiatives. The successful applicant will provide leadership across complex policy workstreams, delivering high-quality analysis and advice while influencing outcomes across a range of stakeholders. This role requires strong judgement, strategic thinking, and the ability to operate in a complex and evolving environment. Responsibilities Leading delivery and implementation of reform policy initiatives Leading analysis of policy issues and providing high-quality recommendations Developing policy, strategies, and corporate documentation Collecting, analysing, and interpreting data to inform decision-making Engaging with stakeholders to influence and negotiate policy outcomes Building and maintaining strong internal and external relationships Leading engagement activities and consultation processes Managing risks and applying sound judgement in complex environments Contributing to leadership and a high-performing team culture Key Skills and Experience Experience in strategic policy development and implementation Strong analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills, including writing for a government audience Experience leading teams within the public sector Sound judgement and governance capability Ability to build and maintain stakeholder relationships Experience with legislation and policy frameworks Understanding of strategic commissioning or procurement frameworks Ability to adapt and respond to changing priorities Additional Information The role is full-time, commencing ASAP and running through to 31 December 2026, with a view to extension.
