The Opportunity We are currently seeking an experienced and hands-on Yard Superintendent to lead the day-to-day operations of our metal recycling yard in Karratha. This is a permanent, full-time, residentially-based position responsible for the safe, efficient and well-organised running of the yard—overseeing the intake, weighing, sorting, processing and dispatch of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, along with the plant, equipment and people that make it happen. The role will suit a local, Karratha-based leader who takes pride in a clean, compliant and productive operation. The roster is Monday to Friday. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage the daily operations of the recycling yard, including intake, processing and dispatch Oversee weighbridge operations and the accurate weighing, grading and recording of ferrous and non-ferrous scrap Supervise and support yard operators, material handler and excavator operators, and weighbridge staff to ensure safe, high-quality outcomes Coordinate bin services, metal collection and transportation logistics for customers across the Pilbara Manage stock control, processing targets and product quality through to dispatch Ensure plant and equipment (material handlers, excavators, shears, oxy cutting and processing equipment) is maintained, with pre-starts, servicing and maintenance schedules completed and recorded Drive a strong safety-first and environmentally responsible culture, conducting inspections, audits and housekeeping using Safety Culture (iAuditor) and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures Act as a key liaison with customers, transport providers, suppliers and the wider Yurra Group Monitor, plan and report on resources, risks and key deliverables, including managing change Problem solve and resolve operational and resource issues both within a team environment and autonomously What We’re Looking For Demonstrated leadership experience managing a metal recycling, scrap, resource recovery, waste or heavy industrial yard operation Strong working knowledge of plant, mobile equipment and materials handling; experience with ferrous and non-ferrous grading and processing advantageous Relevant tickets and licences (e.g. Material Handler/Excavator, Forklift, HR/MR licence) advantageous Weighbridge and stock-management experience well regarded RTIO Induction (preferred or willingness to obtain) Strong understanding of the Pilbara region and its operational challenges Effective communicator with excellent team leadership and stakeholder management skills High attention to detail, with a proactive, solutions-focused approach Strong focus on safety, environmental compliance and quality assurance Computer literacy including MS Office (Office365); experience with Safety Culture (iAuditor) advantageous What We Offer Competitive salary and Local Living Subsidy (conditions apply) Permanent role with long-term development potential Career growth in a values-driven and supportive organisation Employee assistance program (EAP) Discounted health insurance and employee benefits Please note: Only applicants who currently reside in Australia and have full legal working rights will be considered.
