Role As a Diesel Motor Mechanic at Unicorn, you will inspect, diagnose, service and repair?diesel-powered?vehicles and heavy equipment used across our operations and by our customers. You will ensure reliable,?safe?and compliant plant and vehicle performance, minimise downtime, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop. The role will include but is not limited to: Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic tools,?scanners?and technical manuals; provide clear repair recommendations and cost estimates.? Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance, including oil and filter changes, fluid checks, brake inspections, and scheduled servicing to manufacturer and company standards.? Carry out repairs, rebuilds and?component?replacements on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, hydraulic and braking systems using hand and power tools.? Test completed repairs by road testing or operating equipment to verify fault resolution and performance.? Maintain?accurate?service records, job?cards?and compliance documentation in the workshop management system.? Ensure all repairs and maintenance?comply with?relevant transport legislation, manufacturer?specifications?and WHS requirements.? Participate in fault finding, root cause analysis and corrective action processes to reduce repeat failures.? Assist?with workshop housekeeping, tool?maintenance?and control of parts inventory to support efficient operations.? Provide?technical guidance to apprentices and other workshop staff as?required.? Promote a strong safety culture: follow safe work procedures, use personal protective?equipment?and report hazards or incidents?immediately.? Key Competencies: Trade qualification: Certificate III in Heavy Automotive Mechanical Technology (or equivalent) or recognised trade qualification in diesel mechanics.?Relevant qualification (preferred) in addition to relevant mechanical experience. For applicants without a relevant diesel mechanical qualification, additional work experience (at least 3-5 years) would be required. Proven fault finding and diagnostic skills for compression ignition engines, fuel injection systems,?hydraulics?and vehicle electrical systems.? Proficiency?with digital diagnostic software, technical manuals and digital record keeping.? Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to provide practical, cost-effective repair solutions.? Good communication?skills, able to convey technical information clearly to managers,?operators?and customers.? High attention to detail and commitment to?maintain?accurate?records.? Physically fit and able to safely handle heavy components and work in varied workshop conditions.? Team player with a positive attitude and willingness to support continuous improvement initiatives? Previous?experience in vehicle?fit-out, transport,?mining?or heavy plant industries is desirable Experience supervising apprentices or trainees is desirable. Relevant licences or tickets (e.g. forklift licence, elevated work platform) and work at heights / confined spaces training is desirable. Current WA driver’s licence is desirable.
