Our client is seeking a Youth Programs Officer for a 3-6 month contract whilst the current incumbent moves into another role. This role will commence early-mid July Youth Programs Officer for a 3-6 month contract South of the river Mon-Fri - 9-6pm $50.61 per hour! Overview To flexibly support the development and delivery of effective youth programs and services, which are consistent with the needs and aspirations of young people, the broader community. Key Result Areas Program and Event Delivery Plan, facilitate and deliver youth focused recreation, cultural and educational programs in accordance with identified local and regional needs of young people. Develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders (including schools) to address youth issues and deliver youth programs, activities and events (including Youth Week) that activate and maximise use of the youth space. Collaborate and network with other Local Governments, agencies and organisations across the region so that limited resources are most effectively utilised to maximise benefits for young people. Where appropriate, assist in the development of joint programs and strategies with other areas of the Community Activation department and/or external agencies. Act as a flexible resource within the team and wider-Directorate. Actively participate in assisting with the Sport & Recreation Coordinator for projects that provide opportunities for youth. Youth Development Actively consult with young people to seek their opinions, ideas and issues to keep up to date with emerging trends and needs. Monitor, evaluate and continually improve youth programs and relevant policies and procedures to maintain and enhance high quality provision of service to young people. Encourage and foster organised involvement of youth focussed service agencies in the local area. Ensure provision of support, advocacy and referral for young people to support agencies as appropriate. Provide positive encouragement in the personal development of young people through positive socialising; promotion of responsible attitudes and behaviour; key programs and activities. Ensure comprehensive, up to date information and statistical data relevant to the needs and interests of young people is available and accessible. Supporting the Youth Development Team in the creation, review and implementation of operational strategies, plans, programs, and policies to achieve best practice in the delivery of services, programs, opportunities, and events. Supervision and Leadership Inspire and support Youth staff in the delivery of programs with integrity and professionalism, to ensure the team is proactive in assisting and advocating for the ongoing development of young people. Attend external meetings, working groups and committees where required. Actively oversee Contractors when required for the successful delivery of youth programs, activities and events. Ensure effective, safe use of the youth venue (including technology, vehicles, and procedural practices) to engage young people. Ensure that the facilities hosting youth development services are well presented and appropriate to the needs of young people. Actively seek youth funding opportunities and develop/acquit grant applications where appropriate. Identify and develop positive community initiatives that promote the core values and vision within the Shire of Serpentine Jarrahdale's Strategic Community Plan. WHS Responsibility Reports hazards, incidents and accidents promptly, in accordance with procedure and takes part in investigation as necessary. Participates in workplace risk assessments and the identification and control of hazards. Attends scheduled training as required Essential Criteria Diploma level qualification (or significant demonstrated experience) in the delivery of youth development services. Experience and expertise in community development for young people and the delivery of youth services, including consultation, planning, implementing, evaluating and reporting. Proven ability to motivate, lead and engage with team members to maximise performance. Knowledge of policies, programs and funding that relate to young people. Ability to manage risk in relation to young people, premises and services. Strong understanding of emerging technologies and their usefulness in engaging young people High level interpersonal and communication skills including High-level problem solving, negotiation and dispute resolution skills; and High-level verbal and written communication skills and report writing. 'C' class driver's licence. First Aid qualification or ability to obtain. Working with Children Check and Police Clearance or willing to obtain Desirable Criteria Degree in Youth Work, Social Work, Community Services and/or Community Development. Knowledge of youth services in a local government context. Youth Mental Health First Aid.
