About the Role The Mental Health Counsellor provides culturally safe, evidence‑based therapeutic support to Aboriginal people experiencing complex needs, including mental health challenges, trauma, dual diagnosis, and disability. The role operates within the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) framework and Victorian Mental Health Standards, delivering individual, family, and group counselling. Key Responsibilities Deliver culturally safe counselling and focused psychological interventions Conduct intakes, mental health assessments, risk assessments, and MARAM screening Develop and review Individual Treatment and SEWB Plans Provide psychoeducation, group programs, and community-based supports Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to KPI and funding outcomes Manage an active caseload of 18–20 clients (pro-rata) Collaborate with internal teams, community members, and external stakeholders What We’re Looking For Essential: Diploma of Counselling or Mental Health with 2 years’ counselling experience Demonstrated experience delivering culturally safe, trauma-informed care Desirable: Tertiary qualification in psychology, counselling, social work, or related field Experience supporting individuals and families with complex trauma Screening Requirements Victorian Driver’s Licence Working with Children Check National Police Check (arranged by MDAS) Interested?
