Job Description Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead and deliver projects within an operational coal mining environment. This role requires strong end-to-end project delivery capability across brownfield/active sites, combined with commercial acumen, governance oversight, and the ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams in a safety-critical setting. Skills and Experience: Approximately 5–10 years’ experience in project management, including at least several years within coal mining or similar heavy industrial environments, preferably in operating or brownfield sites. A thorough understanding of the total project life cycle, from project conception stage, through all the operational stages to completion and post-project review. Excellent knowledge and experience of all the main project management concepts, tools and techniques. Experience of working within a Client focused environment. Experience of working within the Australian market and/or Australian projects. Scope, Integration & Project Planning Translate business and operational requirements into clearly defined project scopes suitable for live coal mining environments, considering production constraints and site interfaces Contribute to feasibility development, including scope definition, delivery approach, and identification of key risks and constraints Develop and maintain integrated project plans covering scope, schedule, and delivery approach across the project lifecycle Align project objectives with operational and business requirements, ensuring clarity of success criteria Commercial & Financial Oversight Support development of business cases and capital justification inputs for project approval Administer contracts at a project level, ensuring delivery aligns with agreed scope, timeframes, and performance expectations Monitor project costs and progress against budget, escalating variances and issues as required Work with commercial/cost teams to address contractual matters, variations, and claims where necessary Schedule, Change & Controls Coordination Develop and maintain practical project schedules that reflect site constraints (e.g. shutdowns, tie-ins, operational impacts) Track progress against key milestones and coordinate corrective actions where deviations occur Implement and follow change management processes, ensuring changes are captured and communicated appropriately Liaise with project controls functions to ensure accurate and timely reporting Risk, Quality & Engineering Coordination Identify and manage delivery risks, with a focus on early identification and escalation of issues impacting safety, schedule, or operations Coordinate with engineering and technical teams to ensure deliverables are reviewed, approved, and suitable for site application Confirm that completed works meet required standards and are ready for safe handover and integration into operations Support quality processes by ensuring key requirements and specifications are understood and followed Project Execution & Contractor Management Lead execution of project activities within an operational mining environment, ensuring safe and efficient delivery Manage contractor engagement on site, including coordination, day-to-day oversight, and performance monitoring Ensure contractors comply with site procedures, safety requirements, and agreed scopes of work Coordinate cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, engineering, and contractors to deliver project outcomes Stakeholder & Communication Management Act as the key point of coordination between operations, contractors, consultants, and internal stakeholders Provide clear and structured updates on project progress, risks, and issues Facilitate regular meetings and maintain effective communication across all stakeholders Escalate issues where required and provide practical, outcome-focused recommendations Health, Safety, Environment & Governance Demonstrate visible safety leadership and reinforce safe behaviours across project activities Ensure all works are delivered in accordance with site safety standards and regulatory requirements Follow established project governance processes and ensure compliance with organisational requirements Raise and address safety or compliance concerns promptly Continuous Improvement & Lessons Learned Capture key lessons learned from project delivery and contribute to improving future outcomes Identify opportunities to enhance delivery efficiency and team coordination Support adherence to organisational systems and processes Key Performance Indicators: A Project Manager will in part be judged by the extent to which: Projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to required quality standards Achievement of client objectives and business outcomes Strong stakeholder relationships and team collaboration Effective financial and contractual management Contribution to business growth opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives
